Customer service is extremely pushy and passive aggressive. Here is the email reply I received from Southern States after requesting an online quote from their website and then not emailing them back within 5 days:

    "Tina good morning,

Thank you for your interest. I would have liked to have gotten a response from you. It would have been a courtesy on your part and appreciated. I will assume you have found what you are looking for or are otherwise not interested anymore. I see you have gotten all of my emails.

Myself and my manager tried our best to assist you, but without any feedback from you, we cannot help you with a car. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Tim"

Also, when shopping for my boyfriend's car earlier this year, we received a better price using the online quote on their website than after spending over an hour at the dealership with the sales person.something seems wrong there.

We ended up buying from Johnson Subaru in Cary - even if it's a further drive, it is a FAR better customer service experience. Ask for Patrick - he's very responsive and completely not pesky or annoying in the slightest!!

I received very poor service at a Subaru dealership in Cary and a very high quote on the 2018 Crosstrek I wanted. I called Southern States, explained the situation, told them the price, and asked them to beat it.

They gave me a fantastic price on the car I wanted (plus more), invited me in, and sold me the car I wanted without any games or gimmicks just a fantastic deal from the start.

Sales team was great, finance was great, dealership was clean, and my car was perfect when I came to pick it up.

I would definitely do business here again.

Terrible service and support if anything goes wrong. Buy you're Subaru from someone else.

The transmission in our Forester (that we bought here new) went out under warranty. My wife dropped the car off--no loaner vehicle was given--despite the "we take care of our customers because this never happens" line that the sales people give you.

I called and asked why Southern States and asked why they sent my wife with two kids under 3 years old home without a loaner vehicle (she took Uber). I was met with silence.

I asked when they were going to provide a loaner vehicle since she works on the far edge of Durham and I work on the far edge of Cary (30 minutes apart, without traffic). The person on the line noted 'we're all out of loaner cars at the moment.' When I responded that certainly one the many Southern States locations had to have a loaner vehicle and that they had a parking lot full of cars I was told 'well those are for buying, unless you want to buy one.'' Are you kidding me? Across multiple Southern States locations they can't come up with one vehicle in the two weeks they told us it's going to take to make the repair?

I asked to speak with the Service Manager, I was transferred to his voicemail--he never returned my call. My wife called. Same thing. Silence.

I escalated it to the General Manager. I was transferred to his voicemail--he never returned my call.

No one call tell us when we're getting our fixed vehicle back. No one can return one of the multiple calls my wife and I have put into them.

Subaru's might be a great vehicle, but Southern States is an AWFUL dealership. Buy your vehicle elsewhere.

I highly recommend the dealer, I have purchase three vehicles already. Their serve department is great, but still I feel like they charge way more than they should, oil change and replacement of cabin and fuel filter should not be $200. Their COALITION DEPARTMENT WELL ITS HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY FROM IT.

You can immediately tell that this dealership is unprofessional and disorganized by the three different domains they're using for email--in addition to many of the employees using personal Yahoo and Gmail addresses!!!

I brought a 2017 Subaru in for service along with an appointment I had made the week before. The very basic oil service took a little over three hours. I waited in the "customer lounge" for the first two hours all while hearing harrowing stories from the other customers waiting. While that should have been my signal to immediately revoke my agreement to allow them to service my vehicle, I dismissed their complaints as people who abuse and neglect their cars. I was very wrong.

After the service, I paid the $61 and was advised that the low beam LED is not serviceable and that the entire headlight had to be replaced for that; that is a ~$1,200.00 job (with the stealership markup). So if you're considering any Subaru with LED headlights, consider this little token of bad design.

I realized that the car was leaking oil into my garage floor and driveway. So, I tried calling the service manager and the general manager--as you do. No reply. So, I took the car back to the dealership. They recognized the problem and allegedly fixed it.

After the car sat in my garage overnight, it continued to leak oil.

Over the next few days, I made more attempts to contact the same people as before. No reply. I sent an email to the general manager (Brian M.) with a tracking pixel. The email was viewed many times but received no reply. I also delivered the letter in person and recorded the delivery.

After all this nonsense, I took the car back a third time and by a miracle of the sweet baby Jesus, they found that the original service technician left the original crush ring in and installed a second one.

Now If a service technician flubs-up something as simple as an oil change, what else can they have screwed-up on in the past?

After all this, I requested the dealership refund 50% of the service and go 50-50 on the oil cleanup in my garage and driveway. This was ignored in the same fashion as before.

I submitted a BBB complaint, and am now requesting the entire service amount to be refunded and the full amount for the oil cleanup and have received this sardonic, borderline racist reply from the service manager, Jamie H..

This is by no means isolated as the service manager, Jamie H., has an established record on replying to BBB complaints in a sardonic and racist way. Clearly, this dolt does not realize these are all public records that cannot be deleted on a whim.

Consider Johnson Subaru of Cary over this circus of an operation.

Bought a 2017 Subaru Forester in September 2016. Transmission failed at 6,000 miles. At 11,000 miles, I started having transmission issues again, and Eyesight feature issues. I waited 4 weeks for a loaner car, argued with the managers at Southern States and the Senior Rep at Subaru of America, and got treated terribly. I ended up getting a new car on Tuesday to get away from this TERRIBLE company. My car never got fixed, as they said they didn't have a loaner car come in, in the 4 WEEKS I was waiting. Do not buy a Subaru, especially not from here, unless you want to be treated like garbage and have a broken car 24/7. I have been trying to get my money back for my extended warranty for 9 days now, and they will not respond. Horrible customer service, horrible service department, horrible managers.

Buying a new car can be no easy process, especially if it's your first car purchase, but Kristina Ledford made it such a smooth and fun processes. She answered all my questions and made my husband and I feel comfortable in the process. Everything from test driving to signing to financing was a very memorable experience.

Ask for Kristina Ledford if you're interested in buying a Subaru!!

Great experience with Steven at Southrn States used car lot. My husband and I saw a car we were interested in online. Because we live a few hours away we reached out to dealership. Steven said he would hold it until we arrived. Long story, no pressure! Car needed a few minor things taken care of that both (Steven and us) noticed while driving. Steven fixed all with no issue AND had car delivered the next day so we didn't have to drive up again.

I bought a new Subaru at here this March, and I am satisfied with their service and price. Because my friend introduced me to Southern State Subaru (who bought a Subaru here), they should give my friend a $150 bonus. They tricked me to sign the contract, and refused to pay my friend. That really makes me angry. I don't care about that $150, but they trick people on this. I will never introduce anyone here, maybe Johnson Subaru will be a better choice.

I had an incredible experience here. The staff are amazing and this is by far the best dealership I have been to. Patrick Gomes was very helpful and did all the paperwork to get my new car registered in another state. He made a complicated situation very easy and was both kind and professional. Matt Davis was also incredibly nice and helped us through the paperwork. Amazing dealership.

We recently purchased a Forester with Ms. Mercedes Duck. She is very professional, patient, straightforward and responsive. There weren't any pressures when we walked in and talked f2f. Our questions were answered very well. The pricing was good. We were satisfied with the vehicle and the services provided by Mercedes and Southern State.

Mercedes was a pleasure to work with and not pushy whatsoever. Able to answer any question I had about the Subaru SUVs I was looking at. So happy with my purchase and will come back to Mercedes again when I'm ready for my next Subaru!

I had a very pleasant experience when I recently purchased my 2016 Subaru Forrester Touring. . I got a great price and there was no pressure. I felt like the whole staff wanted to work with me to make it happen. My sales person named Mercedes was a standout! Also, Sean, the sales manager was wonderful. He went above and beyond.

This was the best car buying experience ever! I recently purchased a new Subaru Outback and had a wonderful experience with sales people like Caitlin and Matt Davis. They both did a great job, and together with sales manager Mr. Mitchell and finance manager Patrick, all made a great team. The team did a great job of answering any questions, being polite, friendly, patiently professional, and super helpful on issues that came up from the beginning to end of the transaction.
I very much appreciate their honesty and for keeping their word with continuous support.
This vehicle buying experience was very positive and became easy and stress free because of these great people. Thank you for everything you guys did.

I would not recommend anyone buy a car from this dealership!

I will give credit where credit is due though Tim was an outstanding salesman! I have purchased probably 15 cars in the past 10 years, between all these transactions I've had some really good salesmen and some really bad ones and I'd have to say Tim is bar far the BEST salesman I have EVER worked with. So for your hard work I thank you Tim!

However, the finance department has no idea what they are doing! I traded in a vehicle which was more expensive than the vehicle I was purchasing. So in essence Subaru owed my bank around $8,000 for the trade in when everything was said and done. Instead of just paying the $8,000 the finance department decided to pay off my entire loan (which is not what we discussed). So chalk it up to human error no big deal, however, my bank doesn't send checks to dealerships so now I have to drive over an hour to deliver the check. When southern states Subaru decides to cash the check they forgot to stamp it or endorse it so the check gets kicked back, then southern states Subaru finance department asks me to bring in another check because they don't have a check to cash (mind you I have now had the car for 2 months and 2400 miles). In the mean time I get the title in the mail with no lien holder reported, so I called Pat (the finance manager) and asked him what the deal was, he said he was going to send a fed ex envelope so I can send it back for them to fix their error (2 weeks later still no envelope and now I have to pay my bank to fix this mistake).

Overall I have had a horrible experience with this dealership, Now Pat (finance manager) won't return any of my phone calls. When I am able to talk to Pat he says he is going to fix the problems but nothing ever comes of his empty promises. If you really want to buy a Subaru I would recommend going somewhere else save yourself the trouble
