  The planted rocks were not interesting. The bucket of dirt was ten dollars a piece. I've been to much better places

  Farmer Jim is amazing. He went out off his way to build awesome jewellery for my kids from their discovered treasures. Very inexpensive and fun for kids. The place is hard to notice from the street. Follow directions from website. Once you're there it'll be worth the search. And don't forget to close the gate behind you! You'll let the cows in! Ha

  We drove 3 hours to be there only to find that it was a big sand with raw gem stones the owns spread in there. We paid 10 bucks to fill a bucket with sand (without being able to pick in the sand box, but have to make full shovel every time, according to their rules); then you sit and wash off the sand and get some raw gem stone (stones that worth 20 dollars per 3 pounds, according to Amazon). We were there because of completely misleading introduction and adversities from the website.
  This is NOT a mine or adventure-type of digging. This is only for kids to hang out and be happy with the pre-put gem stones.
  Do not go if you are expecting a real digging in a real mine/river.

  My husband and I took a weekend and went down to Beckley. I called ahead to Someplace Special Gem Mine to see if they was going to be open on the weekend we had planned. So, when we got there we bought buckets of dirt. Sifted through them and found many gems. One in which I had shaped into a tear drop and made into a ring. Very BEAUTIFUL WORK! We had a Wonderful time. Thanks again! Hope to go back sometime..

  I really enjoyed my time here. It was really fun. My boyfriend and I thought at first it may be fun for us. Be we really enjoyed! The guy who runs it is very nice!!
