  The Smithey Law Group believed in me when no one else would! There were times when I was so overwhelmed I wanted to give up But Reuben, Joyce and the other wonderful staff had my back! I thank you all sooooooo much! I highly recommend this Lawfirm to everyone, anyone who needs a strong, tough force standing beside them in their fight for Justice!!!!!!!!

  I recently filed a grievance with MD Attorney Grievance Comission after filing a fee dispute with MD State Bar Association against Smithney Law Firm due to the mishandling of my case and both were denied and closed. I hired this firm after over a year with my complaint with MD Commission on Civil Rights to specifically litigate my case in court. I was told about their experience, skills and ability to assist me with this process and advised of steps we would take prior to filing, and which court would be best and so forth. Throughout this period I questioned the excessive billing that included multiple attorneys, contrary to the one inexperienced one on my case. I was told some of the billing was because the attorney on my case had to meet with more experienced attorneys to verify and review her work to make sure it was good/complete/correct process and advice for my case (I shouldn’t have to pay for that). Later after thousands of dollars, emails, inquiring of when the case would be filed and questioning of the handling and billing on my case, I was told that the firm never agreed to file my case in court only to assist me with MCCR complaint (not true when I was at the end of my case waiting to request “right to sue” and once you request you have to file case in court within 90 days) and due to the lack of trust the firm was releasing me to hire another firm-As if I had another $7500- $10,000 to start over. The thing is I had handled my case and was hiring the firm to request the “right to sue” and had discussed this with the investigator at MCCR, had email verifying this and I was very direct about my need for attorney and was still mislead and bamboozled. My case was never filed in court and reverting back to the retainer which stated(paraphrase) that if my case was filed in court an additional retainer would be requested (very misleading)- they were paid enough to have started that process. I was given insurance info by the firm so I could file a claim with insurance to be later contacted by insurance and told the from didn’t have coverage for my type of claim. Beware- Hire at your own risk and get everything written out to your understanding without the legal jargon. It looks like I had to take this loss of $7-8000 but God don’t like ugly -- good luck to them. If I could give a no star I would.
