Smith is the worst dorm that I have ever lived in, mainly because of the vent problem. Whoever designed the building clearly did not know how vents work, because every single sound from the two rooms adjacent to yours comes in crystal clear.
In addition, I have heard stories of people with allergies becoming sick after smoke (both cigarette and marijuana cigarette) frolicked into their room unhindered. The management knows all of this, yet refuses to do anything, vaguely claiming that they will install dampeners "within the next few years."
Please do not live in Smith Hall, unless you really like paying a lot of money to hear your neighbor's personal conversations and sexual activities.
I gave an extra star because newell's is convenient.
This dorm is terrible. The building is newer and has great facilities. However, I take my academics very seriously so I assumed when I decided to live in a more expensive dorm in Madison it would be quieter and more relaxing compared to other dorms on campus. I was wrong!! I am incredibly disappointed in the housefellow and the disciplinary action taken here. The hallways CONSTANTLY smell of pot (thanks to the loud and obnoxious students who live across the hall from me who seem to party nonstop and don’t care about their education at all) and the housefellow clearly knows this is happening and do absolutely NOTHING about it ever. I pay for my own tuition so it wasn’t an easy decision to make when I chose to live in the most expensive dorm on campus but I did it because I thought I would benefit but all I ended up with is no sleep, no enforcement of quiet hours, terrible housefellows, and completely disgusting neighbors. I can clearly hear their conversations word for word. When I addressed my housefellow about this, he did nothing to fix the problem. I am NOT pleased. Don’t live here if you actually care about your education more than partying every night of the week.
