10/10 would recommend if you want some tasty appetizers, their pizza is off the charts, their french fries are also great, i graduated in 2019 but dang do i miss this school

Awful school. The teachers are horrible. Not enough activities to keep kids engaged in and outside of school. Not a school for a child to have an enjoyable highschool experience like they should.

Played them in middle school basketball and we are a much smaller district but they felt the need to put "A" team in the "B" team game to ensure a win.Shady. Teaches poor sportsmanship.

I graduated from the old Smith-Cotton in 2007, and I am now going into my senior year of college. There are some good and some bad things from when I went there. Sedalia is a religious community and yes that does interfere some. Honestly it wasn't a huge issue when I went, just a debate once a year about Evolution vs. Creationism. But honestly, looking back I'm glad it was like that because I didn't go into the world naively thinking that science is all knowing about everything there is to know like some of my classmates in college were brainwashed to believe. It was nice to come out of high school with a couple critical thinking skills.
Some down sides are that they were scarce on teachers who were good teachers. The english and science departments were suffering tremendously and it was frustrating that they didn't have advanced math classes. As far as I remember they did NOT teach creationism in any science classes.
AP prep was kind of a joke as some AP teachers told us not to even take the test because we wouldn't do well enough for the money to be worth it. English AP and History AP were good, but the Calculus class wasn't even an AP class. It was just a class where they shoved kids who'd skipped a grade in math. My history teachers were really good, and really pushed critical thinking skills and wanted to push what really happened in history instead of ignoring things or being biased.
English was good, but when I got to college almost every skill I was taught was useless. They pushed MLA formatting and every paper I've ever written but one has been APA, so not very helpful.
They offer French, Spanish and German as foreign languages and they are all pretty good. The AP classes tend to be a little too relaxed, so you don't get as good as you could, but it's still a good learning opportunity.
A lot of politic issues in the school among students and faculty. I don't know if it's still like this but the Honors Society and another "good role model" program was mostly a popularity contest, and were filled with people who got drunk over the weekend. Teachers had similar issues where becoming the next principal, etc., was more of a popularity contest.
They have good music programs. They have a non-audition choir, a concert choir, a women's show choir, a mixed show choir, and a chamber choir. They also have a pretty large band that is really good. They also have a severely neglected orchestra. There are also good art and drama departments, but I don't know as much about them because I wasn't in them.
Also, test scores don't say much about the learning that takes place in the school considering a good portion of the school is completely apathetic towards tests. I remember they used to bribe us with raffles and such just to get kids to actually answer the questions.
I hope this is slightly more helpful than "They took away our t-shirts and now I'm gonna cry about it". And remember they've built an entirely new school that they may have filled with new people, so this may be completely out-dated information, but this is how it was in 2007.

I just saw the news that the band department designed a very cool tee shirt featuring a marching band as if they were the evolution of man - very cool and creative - from monkey to man, each carrying a brass instrument and with the slogan underneath reading"Brash Evolution" and then some religious cretins cried foul and the gutless school administrators took back the tee shirts. OMG! Every freedom loving kid in the school should contact the manufacturer of that tee shirt and wear it to school tommorrow. What a horrible, mind numbing experience it must be to live in Sedalia Mo.
