This Station Is Horrendous! The Bathrooms Stink like Carp and The Ticket Machine Stole My Money!
One problem I have is when I go to by a ticket at the kiosk at a certain time of day (usually around 2:30 in the afternoon), it's very hard to see the screen. They should either put some kind of awning above the screen, or turn the machine around so it's facing the parking lot. I've almost missed a few trains because of this!!
It's a main hub so it's gonna be usually busy. I think it's the west bathrooms that are always messy and smell bad. So if you've got the extra time and bladder control it's worth a walk to the east bathrooms.
Cheap transportation. It will take about the same time as driving to take the train to LA or further south during rush hour. The problem is that the trains are often late and can be very crowded in the general seating cars during busy times -- like Friday evenings. Book a reserved seat, or be flexible and pounce on a seat when it opens up -- you could be standing for a stop or two when you first get on. It's nice the cars have normal 110V outlets for your computer or phone charger.
I tried to buy Amtrak tickets at the kiosk- it couldn't read my credit card. Finally gave up and tried a Metro link ticket, read my card no problem(?)
