Consistently rated as one of the best beaches in America, and you can easily see why. Visitors from all over the Midwest make this beach a summer time must! Massive sandy beach, volley ball nets, amphitheatre with summer concerts overlooking the famous St Joe Lighthouse.
The downtown with its many quaint shops and tasty restaurants (Chocolate Factory!) both casual and up scale is within walking distance of the beach. Splash pad and antique carousel here as well. Amtrak station at beach. Chicago about 80 minutes away by train. Parking fee during summer months
Beautiful beach, lovely lakefront. Cute pizza spot with outdoor dining. Merry go round for the kiddos and the kid in you.The day I went kites were flying high, and I love the fun artwork. Free parking was a surprise bonus.
Very nice beach and park. The compass fountain is incredible. Unfortunately, when we stopped by for an impromptu visit there was some sort of flea market happening so it took me about 45 minutes to find a place to park my camper.
Great fine sand on the beach and beautiful view! The cost to park was $12 for the day for Michigan residents. I recommend bringing some kind of sunshade if you don't want to be putting on sunscreen all day. The water was a bit too cold for swimming but helped for a quick cool down. The place on the beach for food and drinks was very overpriced, but the Chicago style hotdogs had tomato, onions, a pickle and some jalapeño which was tasty. There is a very nice playground for the kiddos. The showers are all outside to help clean off sand essentially. Silver Beach Pizza Restaurant had a long wait, but was delicious and we noticed there were more pizza options in the restaurant than the to-go spot. The lavender gimlet was delicious, strong and very lavender! Overall great time.
Silver beach is awesome with so many different things to do. Many volley ball courts, shaded pavilions on the beach, the pier, splash pad, carousel. It is most popular beach but is very big that a short walk down the beach will take you away from most of the crowd. It is walking distance to St Joe downtown with their shops, wine tasting room and restaurants. Awesome place! Only negative is you now have to pay to park.
This park has so many kid attractions, there isn't even enough time to do everything. The kids love the beach. The kids love the playgrounds. The kids love the interactive fountain. The kids love the carousel. The kids love eating pizza at the beach (easy to order & pick up from Silver Beach Pizza). Each time we've visited we've run out of time and haven't even made it to the children's museums yet!
A favorite summer spot to go out for the day or weekend. Clean and family oriented beach. Life guards on duty. The water is always warmer on this side of Lake Michigan all due to their sand barge. Steps from Downtown shops, restaurants and eateries. Worth the drive or take the train in!
Absolutely beautiful! Great view, beach, playground and clean restroom facilities.
I really think this is my favorite Lake Michigan beach! Easy access. Decent parking. Good amenities close by. Super clean sand. Even when crowded you can usually find your own spot to setup. Feels less hectic than South Havens North Beach. Super close to downtown and a nice green space.
Wonderful beach and park area. There is a fun carousel for young kids and a large fountain for jumping around in.
Great Beach but for sunsets go north 400 ft
Silver Beach State Park is a big, wonderful beach. I have been coming here since I was a kid. The sand is white and soft. There are massive jungle gyms for kids to climb on, swing sets, and lots of concerts all summer. Party on the white sand beach and swim in the shallow waters. There are restrooms, picnic areas, and parking is close-by.
But see the photos below of sand dunes and amazing sunsets. They are actually from Tiscornia Park just 400 feet north on the other side of the channel. (You have to drive nearly 2 miles to get there.) Tiscornia Park has the same white sand but is the opposite of Silver Beach, small, and secluded.
If you want a great party beach and fun features for kids, Silver Beach is your beach. If you want a romantic dunes and sunsets, consider Tiscornia. Both are great.
My favorite beach to go to, locally. So many memories. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to kill time and enjoy nature. VERY KID FRIENDLY.
