I'm not a Pittsburgh native. I stop through once a year for a few days. Each time is a sore reminder of the stupid beer laws. So stupid. I drink away the misery of not being able to buy a good 6 pack at Sharp Edge. While I'm paying a premium at least they offer a great spot and a wide variety of high quality beers.
Good service, decent food. Prices were a little high. Nice beer list but too many belgiums for my tastes. They have some good happy hour deals.
It's great, especially if you're not in a hurry. I could be there for hours because the place is really nice and familiar and staff is friendly and attentive. The food is fantastic too, try the Buffalo Burger.
Nice selection of imports if you want something different than the usual craft scene. I feel like this local chain has gone downhill in recent years. Was a good 4.5 stars in their heyday.
One of the best meals I've eaten in the USA. The Farmer Burger was outstanding. Lovely decor and friendly, helpful staff. The meals were very reasonably priced. This place has a great atmosphere. Didn't take photos of the food, it was too good to pause for a photo.
The atmosphere is very casual, and the staff is friendly. The burgers are eclectic. I got the The Rocky Mountain. The patty is a mix of Buffalo, elk, wild boar, and Angus. It was cooked perfect to order. Nice selection of imported bad craft beers.
This is the place where my wife had our first date. You can actually have a conversation here without screaming over one another. Extremely friendly service staff. Excellent food (it's a burger and fries joint that does some appetizers).
Beer selection is wonderful. They rotate microbrews often.
The Penn Avenue location of the Sharp Edge is perfect for a quick lunch visit while attending a conference at the David Lawrence Convention Center. That was one of the few opportunities I had to eat out in a short trip and it was the best experience.
I tried the Belgian burger with seasoned fries. The portion is more than adequate for lunch. The medium-rare cooked lamb went perfect with the bacon crumbs and cheese and made for a mouth watering treat. The fries were fresh and tender and lightly seasoned. My friends ordered the Chicken Avocado sandwich and the Quinoa Avocado burger (vegetarian) and both of them were very satisfied with their meals. Now everyone coming back happily from lunch is a rare occurrence when you are trying out a new place in a city that you are visiting. So kudos to the Sharp Edge.
The atmosphere was lively and yet urban-upscale type. The waiting staff was very friendly. In spite of having come for a quick lunch, we ended up taking our time relishing our meals. I would love to come back next time I am in the area.
Decent food but much better beer selection. They have a focus on Belgian beer that I haven't really seen anywhere else.
The environment is more or less like a standard American diner with a bar.
Lambecs! And solid burgers and sides. This place has been excellent for accommodating a large group of friends in their upstairs dining room several times (20+), as much as we might be a strain on them! Just reserve it ahead of time, and you're golden.
Terrible experience for a large group at lunch. I noticed someone else posted a 5 star experience probably for the same time we had a 1 star. We had a 12:30 reservation, and at 2:15, many of us left, looking to get back to our conference meetings, still not having been served food (but we had paid already, you know, to save time at the end when the clock was clearly ticking down on our 2 hour window for lunch). When at 2:10 the server said, "You're food's about ready, I'm just going to bring some drink refills for you first," i insisted to skip the refills, bring the food. While the server was nice enough, this restaurant really couldn't handle multiple large reservations at the same time (there were probably 4 groups around 2 dozen each). I can't tell you if the food was any good; I was one of the people who left after an hour and forty five minutes.
If you're looking to make a reservation for a group while in town for a convention, don't just go for the convenience of the location.
We went as a large group (24ppl), as part of a break out from a conference. I had to increase our numbers several times, prior to our lunch, and had no problems with the staff being helpful. Day of, our area was set and ready before our reservation time. We had WONDERFUL service from GRANT. We were well fed, bills paid (separate checks) and out the door in record time. Thank you Sharp Edge!
Really great food. The choices of beer here were amazing and I plan on coming back to give more of these international beers a try. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the amount time waiting to get seated, order, and to receive our food. It was not our waiters fault, she was doing wonderful, however it seems as if they were way understaffed for a Sunday night in the cultural district of Pittsburgh. Great food, beer, and staff but maybe have more staff on hand.
