You'll pass Scout Falls on the way to the top of Mount Timpanogos. Many people looking for a shorter hike or hiking with kids just hike to the falls and back which takes two or three. The best time to go is during Spring run off.
It's beautiful!! I've gone in the early fall and late fall, and it's been amazing both times. Highly recommended hike!!
Great hike and in the afternoon mostly in the shade, 6 year old handled it with no problem. 3 miles round trip from parking lot to falls. Some small water runoff patches on the trail.
My wife and I did this hike with the family on August 12, 2017. It was a very nice gradual incline the whole way with varied shade and exposure. We ate lunch at the falls, although there aren't a lot of great sitting spots at the actual falls.
I carried our 18-month old in a carrier pack and had no trouble. My five-year old girl hiked the whole way, but she did tell me towards the end that she and mommy didn't really want to come (it was close to her max ability). My three older boys (10-13) had no problems whatsoever and it increased their confidence.
This is the third hike we have done with the entire family up AF Canyon this Summer (also did Pine Hollow and Silver Lake). They are all very similar in difficulty, but this one is not as steep as Silver Lake so I enjoyed it more for the family for that reason. This hike does have some water on the trail at parts, so I appreciated my waterproof boots, but they aren't necessary by any stretch. My wife and daughter wore tennis shoes.
Beautiful hike. Lots of water this year make the falls better than usual. GPS measured the hike as 1.75 miles from the trail head.
This is a beautiful trail with varied terrain. We came on July 17, 2017. The trail to Scout Falls was easy to navigate. We tried to hike to the saddle of TImp, but there were too many places where the trail was covered with snow. Early in the morning it was fine, but as the sun came out the snow got slushy and slippery. We will come back in August to try again.
Wow!!! I have hiked all through the Utah mountains and this was amazing!! If you want to go to the top of the falls instead of the bottom of the falls continue up the trail until you see the sign for the falls. It will be tempting to take a fork to the left but that way is more strenuous to the top.
Amazing cool with all the snow run off. A little technical getting there when there is still snow on the ground. Easy hike from mid summer to early fall
Fun stop along the Mount Timpanogos trail
Super fun hike, there's not a ton of water, but it helps add to the appeal. Little hard for younger kids or older people to actually get too
The back side of Timpanogos is one of my goto places to hike. I am particularly fond of the Timpooneke trail and hiking to the Timpanogos Basin. Scout falls is a nice waterfall on your way up to the basin.
Great trail, that's moderately steep, but not very long. Stay to the left and you'll make it to the waterfall overlook.
