I cannot say enough good things about the employees and the offerings here at the St. John location. Matt started designing my kitchen with me. He knew exactly how to cater to my tight budget while still getting me all the add-ons I really wanted. Dan in the kitchen department accommodated my husband and two kids tight time frame when in the store for appointments. Jason helped me with our quick ship and I even got to pick up my cabinets same day, as we had a last minute need to accommodate! I have even bought beautiful 7in plank hardwood flooring from Schillings as well. They are by far the best choice and experience you will find in Northwest Indiana area.

Great company great service. I have dealt mainly with Scott, Julie and Lisa during the course of building my house. Competent capable individuals that make my life easier during this stressful task. Very competitive pricing with statements at the end of the month that are simplified. Shillings is number 1 in our book for pricing, customer service and delivery. We were on the hunt for luxury vinyl and came across Schillings. They could not be beat for price. When we talked with Carl through email he was very helpful and timely in his responses. Ordering and delivery was a breeze. Carl also went above and beyond to help when we found out we miscalculated on sq footage and needed more in the middle of our project. Carl was to the rescue! He rushed our order so that we could continue our project without to much delay! I would recommend Schillings to anybody! Wish we lived closer, because it would definitely be our go to store! Thank you Carl for the fantastic shopping experience with Schillings .

Walking in, everything is displayed so well. The staff is always quick to ask if they can help you find anything. When picking up material, the order always go well. Someone grabs your tag and loads your vehicle with the lumber you ordered. Schillings is like the fast food for building materials.

I came on here to write a review and I noticed the negative one below mentioning wait time, minority and being uncomfortable? Speaking from a mixed minority family that frequents the store, my wife and I have purchased materials from Schillings both for our home and businesses.

I used to go to the big box stores for my rental properties however the quality was just not there. I used to get the basic cabinets from Menards, Lowes or HD. There I would measure then have to pick them up myself, drive them to the job site, stain them and then hang them up. After seeing the ad on Schillings stock cabinets, I installed them in one of my rental houses. I was sold from that point on. Price, quality, and convenience vs the box stores is better at Schillings. Someone from Schillings drives out to my rental properties in Gary, takes the measurements and delivers the finished product to the job site.

Another time I was building a mantle and needed some cedar lumber. I called to see if they could make sure I received a really nice piece, they had one set aside for me by the time I arrived. No digging through a pile like I have in the past. I especially like the knowledge on the product and design ideas their sales team consistently offers compared to the big box stores. My wife and I always try to support the local family run businesses and I appreciate the professional and knowledgeable service we get at Schillings.

I called today and worked with Carl in Customer Service. He was very patient, helpful and service-oriented. He was able to answer my questions and offer assistance beyond my expectations. Schillings offers a competitive, and in my case a lower price (incl. shipping) for the porcelain tile I am interested in purchasing with a fast lead time. Also, Schillings was able to offer a tile color that can be difficult to locate, as well as samples.

We are just finishing a complete kitchen and flooring remodel and couldn't be happier that we chose Schillings to work with. From start to finish the process was seamless, uncomplicated and enjoyable. What could have been overwhelming, was helped by Mat and Ed who kept in mind what we wanted and also encouraged us to think outside our box and explore other ideas. They were spot-on and really made the process fun and stress free. Couldn't speak higher of them and our results are fantastic! Highly recommend Schillings for any remodeling needs!

I recently went to the Schillings Brothers in Saint John because my wife works out there. I never felt so uncomfortable and out of place in all my life. I came in to get an estimate for a bay window,a deck in the backyard,a patio door,a garage and a gazebo. I waited for thirty minutes and no one would wait on me. I served 15 years in the military and 12 years for Homeland Security. So I learned the hard way and took my business to Home Depot where I was appreciated and felt welcomed. I guess that they're a real good business, but not for minorities. Thanks I learned a lot.

I spoke with Carl today about a special order for some flooring that I needed. They clearly understand how to service customers today as I had sent out 3 requests to various companies last week and he was the first (and only) person to follow up. Price is important but the service is what makes all the difference. First in class service, prompt, courteous and communication were outstanding. So many internet offerings and this has been one of my best experiences. A++++

UPDATE: It appears that my experience seemed to be a one-off. As soon as I wrote my review, I was contacted by the owner who profusely apologized for the poor customer service we had received so far. He gave me his personal cell phone number if I had any questions or concerns and assured me that he would take care of anything wrong or outstanding with my order. They even refunded my handles!

Cheap but man, do they not even try. We bought nearly everything from Schillings to fully renovate our kitchen: cabinets, floor tile, back splash, grout and sub floor. Doug worked with us for an hour. They delivered it to our house in Glen Ellyn. When we noticed things were missing, they started out with an extremely disappointing and no effort response to just ignoring our emails. We needed to exchange a cabinet due to incorrect measurements, and they wanted to charge us 20% restocking even though we were already paying for the better fitting cabinet. We are also still missing interior hardware for our cabinets and all of the handles. What is really the worst is when we told them the handles weren't there, their response was "The reason there are no handles is because none were purchased. I just looked at all the orders including the estimate and I don’t have any listed. Sorry for the inconvience but you did not buy any from me." It was like he didn't even try to solve our issue, since it only took us 5 minutes to take a picture of the itemized receipt they provided and screenshots of our bank account showing that that money was paid. They're happy to take your money, but hard to work with.

We had an excellent experience working with Schillings! Ashlee M., who works in the flooring department, went above and beyond to get everything in order for our quartz countertops, sink, faucet and floor tile. She was extremely professional and would respond to my emails immediately! We will be sending our clients to her as well, because she knows what she's doing and is very friendly, too. Ann, in the accounts department, was also a pleasure to work with and assisted me with some billing questions. A man named Dennis helped load the tile into our car and he was very nice as well. We couldn't have had a better experience with Schillings and are looking forward to working with them in the future!

A couple years ago we did some remodeling in our kitchen. Of course, I was indecisive of what product to use and what colors would be aesthetically pleasing. Thankfully, I took the time to browse through Schilling's show room. The amount of product they show, and the effort they've put in to demonstrating what can be done with these products is astonishing! Combine that with the excellent service I received, made going back for my bathroom remodel a no brainer!
To this point I've purchased a granite kitchen counter tops, a granite bathroom vanity, back splash tile, vinyl flooring and am now in the process of purchasing another granite top for a bathroom vanity. I couldn't imagine shopping anywhere else for my home improvement needs. The quality and service continues to be outstanding!

Schillings is an excellent company to work with for all your home improvement needs! Schilling has been able to give us great suggestions and deals on helping redo our house, including flooring, and both bathroom and kitchen countertops. Schillings was very easy to work with and very professional. The contractors that work with the company were excellent as well - everything is set up and ready to go by the time you walk out the door. Also, if you haven't, take a walk around the store. It is one of the most renovated, clean, and up-to-date establishments I have had the pleasure to be able to shop within. Five stars! Definitely give this great company a go if you have not already!
