Absolutely fabulous place for hiking. A real memorable experience hiking in the Bear Canyon. There are trails for all level hikers in this National Forest area. This place is popular, the lot fills up quickly. If you arrive mid morning, you will probably have to wait for someone to leave to get a spot.

This national park is AMAZING, everything is in order, perfect traffic sings, the views are beautiful. The wildlife is all around you. All park staff are so very helpful and excellent customer service and manners. And a especial mention for Mr. Lorenzo ( driver ) he was so friendly, gentleman, funny and a life information book. 5 stars. !!!

Truly loved taking the tram up the mountain, with a choice of nine stops. We enjoyed the spectacular scenery, while being chauffeured. Most exciting, was going over stone bridges, with water gushing below our feet. At the top of the canyon, we walked down to the next stop, took a short trail towards beautiful white rocks surrounded by water. One can relax and take in the stunning scenery and rare saguaro trees. Arizona can get quite hot, so best to grab a hat and take plenty of water.

We just took the tour to the top and back, since it was over 100 degrees. The tour guide was excellent. Lots of good information about the canyon and its creation. There are nine stops on the route where you can be dropped off or picked up to take pictures, hike, walk down, etc. Trams are every 30 minutes.

Until today, reading the push to get the current tram operator out of Sabino Canyon seemed mildly interesting.
We walk the canyon every single weekend.
I always thought The tram was a great way for people to see the majesty of the canyon who are unable to trek the 7.4 mile round trip.
I always thought the "cash-only" policy was extremely suspect. The trams put out a choking amount of smog to walkers and cyclists. The trams are old looking and appear in dis-repair and the "tour guides" scream into the canyon which is very unnerving if your looking for any kind serene experience.
Unfortunately today one of our friends from out of town got heat stroke and needed to get back quickly. After being told to wait for the tram coming down by another tram driver we were then "strong armed" into handing over our personal property because they were so afraid we would bail on them. Unfortunately, the keys to a new Subaru and an i-pod were not enough .
The dispatcher was the nastiest woman and had zero compassion. We were actually told "if you walked in you can walk out" . So in their minds I am supposed to send my sick friend alone on the crappy tram and I am supposed to run behind it for the next mile and a half when the temperatures rose to 96 degrees. ??
We got to meet the nasty dispatcher and she stuck by her policy stating that people hitch rides and run away. I told her there are some costs to doing business and being in-humane to the family of someone in distress is ridiculous.
P.S a very nice woman on the tram ended up paying our way. (In cash of course)
This company is unprofessional and bush league.
Not a representation of Tucson and our beautiful canyon.
Get them out of the Canyon!!!!

Sabino Canyon is amazing and a great place to bring kids for the day. I love to bike there after 5 and go hiking. Wonderful facilities, a Tucson must.
HOWEVER, the staff on the tram has an overblown sense of importance. Have had several bad experiences with them but the worst was when my mother and I walked into the canyon a few miles and it started to pour torrentially. We hailed a passing tram in the pouring down rain only to see the tram pass us by and the smug little you know what call out behind him, "Not a stop! Make your way to a stop!"
It's great as long as you have no interaction with the tram drivers or have to pay that ridiculous price to ride on it.response / report this review -

Sabino canyon is great. Unfortunately, I was with a friend who has trouble walking more than half a mile so we took the tram. Obnoxious, loud smoky diesel engine, loudspeaker turned up to overcome it. Obnoxious mouthpiece of a woman driver who talked way too much made stupid jokes, etc, even my friend who couldn't walk wanted to get off, and we walked the last mile. The "trams" should be electric or propane, and they should train their drivers better. Last time for that.

Tour was great, but there is a difference in quality between guides. Some seem happy and some seem bored. It's a nice way to travel through the canyon though, especially if you don't have a lot of time.

I was very disappointed that the tour was no where near handicap accessible. Instead I had to figure it out the hard way. I couldn't even get into the Trams. I found it intriguing that this branch could not follow federal guide lines for accessibility passed in the 90's. Thank you for wasting my time. As far as I am concerned they deserve zero stars.
