The service here is short and to the point, so don't expect to be doted on, but once you take a bite you'll be thankful to be left alone with the flavor affair in front of you. Can't go wrong with just about everything on the menu, but the Borscht and special cheese pie are an incredible combo, especially in a cold night.
This is Russian Georgian comfort food, made the way your babushka would have done, were you lucky enough to have one. And since, like me, you don't, this is the next best thing.
Super relaxed, warm ambience of a non pretentious restaurant that serves unique food - complemented by the very welcoming staff. Their menu has some really nice surprises for your palette so do read through and talk to the server - they are mostly never wrong with their suggestions. And while you are there do give the Armenian Pomegranate wine a try, goes really well with just about everything !
Disgusting service. Refused to accommodate even the lightest of dietary restrictions. Then again coming from these guys, shouldn't come as a surprise. All they're missing is a bear-chested maniac, riding around on his horse, screaming, "NO [dish] FOR YOU!"
First time eating Borsht and the sour cream does add a nice taste to it. Better yet it was delicious. Tasted better than I thought possible.
From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, staff was incredibly hospitable, friendly, and professional. We loved every meal we ordered, the drinks, and the much needed helpful suggestions of our server. Would definitely recommend! Looking forward to making the 1.5hr drive to come here again soon! :D
Very nice place. As a person who just moved from Russia can testify that the food is authentic and as a person whose dad is from Georgia can say that they serve Georgian food only on rare occasions, specifically on Thursday evenings. Great decor, a lot of good Russian poems written on the walls.
For lactose-free people: don't go there, diary is virtually unavoidable.
Nice place. If you are visiting SD, I would definitely recommend to go to Pomegranate. Native Russian-speaking visitors may find the food a bit different from the original Georgian, Russian, or Ukrainian dishes with similar names, but still it's a unique place to get the taste of this fusion. The food is as authentic as any other fusion food prepared by Ukrainian-Russian chief in Russian-Georgian place, simply - a "far-Eastern European" fusion (if not Soviet Union, that does not exist anymore). The waiters there are good, they knows what to recommend you if you are lost in the menu and how to explain nuances of their kitchen.
So, I went to this place with an apprehension about vegetarian options since I don't eat meat. But their vegetarian sampler is really amazing. It's worth a try if you are still developing taste buds for Russian food.
Note: Ask them for the order/sequence to eat different stuff in the sampler (meaning to what eat first, last, etc)
Just ate here for the first time after hearing about it for a long time. Everything was amazing! You have to get the cheese bread, though everything was delicious. Wish I had tried it sooner, will definitely be back soon!
I have to give this place a slightly higher rating due to uniqueness and their great service. They direct you to the right stuff if you are not familiar and it just seems a little special. For example, they grill outside. Even the familiar items like the cabbage roll or the dumplings are better than most that I have tried at other places.
Great food! I try to go here at least once a month. I've tried quite a bit on the menu and everything is great. The cheese bread served on the weekends is life changing
Wonderful menu and atmosphere. The waitress recommended the daily special which was as tasty as described. She took the time to tell us how best to eat the dumplings when she served them so none of the delicious broth was lost. Good sized servings!
