Rumrunners offers placid marina views and a classy atmosphere, attentive and friendly service, and the food is about par for this type of establishment and price level, but not particularly stellar.
After appetizers of quite fresh and tasty peel-and-eat shrimp along with very standard fried calamari, I ordered the Caribbean Bronzed Cobia: it was a smaller portion of fish, the glazed plantains base was good, and the key lime salsa topping was flavorful. The small side of steamed snap peas was unexpected based on the menu description. I finished with a dessert order of key lime pie, which was excellent.response / report this review -

This is my favorite place to dine in Florida.. Possibly in the country. If you get a chance to sit on the patio at sunset you will see what I mean.
The menu is not extensive, although they do offer a good steak selection and a good seafood selection. Don't expect alternative choices like some places offer. Rumrunners specializes and they don't seem to care if someone in your party would rather have a Cobb salad or a hamburger. I have a lot of respect for this attitude.
I've eaten here more than a couple of times and everything I've had has been elegant, beautifully plated, and delicious. Nothing I have ordered has been generic by any means.
The worst service I've had here was merely obnoxious - talked too much.. Told us that he didn't care about his job there, sat down at the table with us when we weren't even engaged in a conversation with him and we were there for business, complained about his hard life- which didn't seem to be hard at all, and offered the check to the man at the table I was paying. (For any server reading this, do not assume the man is paying, because if he isn't, this gesture comes off as sexist and is a reminder of income inequality in our country- just put the check in the middle of the table unless a specific person has asked for the check), not unfriendly or unaccommodating. For the most part, the service has been professional and keeping with the elegance of the restaurant.
I've only been approached by a manager once. I'm not sure if table- touching is a big deal in Florida like it is in other states.
I will recommend this restaurant to anyone and I enjoy taking coworkers when they will come with meresponse / report this review -

Lower my rating from 4 stars to 2. Last night the prime rib was inferior meat, select maybe, or less. Prepared to the correct temp, but taste was unsatisfying. The grouper, as well as the shrimp was over cooked. Location, on the water by the locks, very nice, Chip, our waiter, made the night fun. Bottom line, good food is the foundation and last night the foundation crumbled.

I stopped in at Rumrunners, as I wanted to eat by the water . I checked Google reviews and other sites and decided to make the drive . Rumrunners did not disappoint ! First, I start with the hostess, Hailey. She is professional , knowledgeable , courteous AND listens! When I asked to sit by the water, she asked, inside or out and I desired out. As she approached the table , she noticed it was still being cleaned , due to broken glass and she brought me back inside to wait, it was a short wait . She also apologized for the situation, so lovely of her . Hailey is a very good asset to Rumrunners . Shortly after I was seated, server Denine , another very good asset , professional , courteous and knowledgeable , as I did not see the soup and salad combo and she brought it to my attention, asked what I wanted to start with. As they did not have non alcoholic ginger beer, (not many places do and that is fine ), they do offer green tea. I ordered the soup of the day, a caramelized onion bisque, cup size. It was delicious and rich in flavor . I also ordered the bistro salad , delicious . I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Rumrunners and highly recommend it for good food , good staff and of course , it is by the water. Oh AND , did I mention, this was for a party of one , so anyone wishing to go have a lovely meal , solo once more, may I suggest Rumrunners . Beautiful view and atmosphere. Service was friendly and excellent. Food was a significant let down. Could be the plates we chose, but I would definitely not recommend the blackened chicken or the seafood croissant or the bloody Maries. Blackened chicken tasted like they used Old Bay which I don't care for on chicken. Croissant was basically a below average tuna fish sandwich. May be worth a second visit to try a different dish since the service and atmosphere were so good. This place is also very dog friendly which is a big plus. Really should be 3.5 stars.

While Rum Runners continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in the area, our last visit was somewhat disappointing. In the past the preparation of the seafood (shrimp and fish) has been extraordinarily good but this time around, perhaps because of a new chef?, my shrimp were overcooked and my wife's grouper was dry and lacked any significant seasoning. Their prices remain on the high side so I can no longer give this establishment of 5-star rating but Hope on our next visit we'll see some improvement.

My wife and I enjoy dining at this restaurant. The view of the canal and locks is nice. The menu is well varied with lots of choices for entree's. The food is consistent and the prices are reasonable. One particular entree is the Seafood Pot Pie, loaded with chunks of seafood and veggies in a cream sauce with a light crust topping. A good value for the price. Off season is a good time to visit as the winter visitors make reservations a must.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! We heard this was a great restaurant with excellent food and service. We were seated immediately but after 22 minutes of no service, no waiter/waitress, no water, were ignored by the waiter of the tables on both sides of us.
Then one of the tables next to us was cleared, another couple seated, and within 2 minutes a waitress was asking them for their drink order!
We got up and went to the Hostess and asked to speak with the manager. An unkempt man approached didn't even introduce himself. My husband explained our poor experience and knowing that when you make a complaint, having food served to you isn't a very good idea, shamefully! I can't describe how unacceptable this was, they were not busy, but obviously not wanting to provide a nice dining experience!
We walked across the street to Fathoms, were seated immediately, waiter came within a few minutes, very welcoming and we are now enjoying delicious drinks and warm fresh appetizers!

For our once a year vacation in Cape Coral, this is a must. The food, atmosphere, view and staff are incredible. This time around, we had their oysters on half shell, pasta carbonara and their specialty sunfish grilled with a macadamia crust. It was all perfection.

It's a nice enough place and the wait staff are nice also, but would not go there again to eat. There was food listed on the menu that they didn't even have. We went with another couple and we all ordered something different. My husband had steak which was fatty and I had shrimp which was over cooked and I know our friends weren't that crazy about what they had to eat. I don't mind paying a good price for a meal, but I like to walk away at least a little satisfied. Way over priced and not worth going to, food isn't that good.

Food was great as you can see from the photos and wine portions were generous - I gave this restaurant a 3 star rating - because. We had made reservations around 6 days earlier, told them we were 10. Assumed incorrectly that they understood we wanted to be seated all together. We added 2 more persons. Called up to tell them our friends boat was docked infront and we would come 10 minutes later than the reservations. Was told it would be given to another party if so. Friends rushed to reserve - and were told that they had to change setup for us, they had NOT prepared out table, we waited (could have been at the boat waiting with a glass of wine). Led to table - separate tables! Asked them politely to move it together. A big FAT No! Lady argued with us and told us, no, no no. Thankfully her supervisor intervenedput a little damper on the evening. She also shouted and raised her arms and told us - whatever! This is NOT the first time they have disappointed us but it will be the last. March 4, 2017
