This was a super cool experience! It was VERY neat to observe the different displays and even cooler to read the explanations. The other art was nice as well. GO VISIT!
Visited for the special exhibit: Murder Is Her Hobby. Well detailed descriptions. Fascinating dioramas. Well worth the trip!
A jewel of a museum focused on American craft. It is much smaller than most other Smithsonian galleries which makes it a great destination for a quick art date with a friend or a lunchtime wander if you are in the neighborhood.
Very small gallery. My wife and I were able to do the whole thing in about an hour. The installations were well done and will laid out. We enjoyed our time here. It's a great way to fill in some time in your day. It wasn't very crowded either.
Great relaxing gallery of unique art. There is a room with a cool ceiling where you can lay down and gaze and even take nap.
The docent at the entry was very informative and passionate about the art and artists" display here. There were some interesting pieces in here but there was not anything I would be interested in seeing again. There are much better museums in the Smithsonian group.
It is a little small but the items they had were interesting. My favorite was the McDonalds bag tree. It took such an elaborate design to cut from the top and stretch it to the bottom and have it look so intricate on the inside.
This museum is one of the coolest ones to visit while visiting the White House especially if your out of town considering that they always have an installation and there's amazing sculptures and exhibits there. It's also one of the quickest museums you can go to while in DC.
My son checked this gallery out before we visited D.C. And insisted to go with our very limited time in D.C. It's a small but really amazing gallery with astonishing exhibit, even a part of it was still in renovation. Definitely will go there again! highly recommend.
Great intimate art museum! The building is gorgeous and the exhibits are packed however it's small enough to go through quickly on a lunch break.
There are rotating exhibits and I definitely enjoy some of them more than others, but overall the art is beautiful and the museum is well-maintained. It's part of the Smithsonian network so it's free to get into! But be aware that the lines to get inside can get pretty long if there's a new or especially exciting exhibit.
I've been twice now, a year apart, and the turnover of exhibits as well as the amazing variety presented make this one of the best art galleries to visit as a tourist, in my opinion. You don't need a huge time commitment and will certainly have a great time, the work is stunning and there's something for everyone.
An interesting display of contemporary artisans and crafts in a beautiful old building. Well designed lay out, engaging works of art, cheery space. Family with two adults and two teens and we were there for almost three hours! Loved it!
This is a Craft museum that is a subdivision of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It's wheelchair accessible and has a unisex bathroom. There is no parking available, so you have to walk but worth the extra footwork. It also has a wonderful shop!
