Roaches in bedroom, dirty toilet, hair in sheets Oh man the breakfast.. I've seen better breakfast in hotels with half a star rating. Woman says every morning, "there's not enough people to put out sausage and bacon.." seriously? This morning, there was a full lobby, said the same thing. Greedy greedy.

Another hotel in New Braunfels somehow lost our reservation, never a happy thing to discover at 3am. We called literally every hotel in New Braunfels and Seguinno vacancies. Red Roof Inn of San Marcos to the rescue! Even gave us a great rate, clean, well-appointed roomjust what we needed.

Fantastic service from employees. Otherwise fair economy hotel. Another guest complained about a roach in the room which I did not see myself

Nothing terrible. You get what you pay for. Sure there's a few knicks here and there but what do you expect? It's not the Marriott. It is exactly what it's worth in my opinion. Not terrible - not great - just a hotel room.

BED BUGS!! Do NOT stay here, I tried to get my money back and they told me they have to make a case and have an exterminator go out there to prove they had bed bugs. Owner does NOT care about the customer. DONT STAY HERE!!!

Worse hotel i have ever been in. Disgusting first room we were given smelled like a family of rats had been living in there. Was moved to another room and that one was dirty the sheets and pillow cases looked like they hadnt been washed or changed. Went outside and there was a large rat. Bums outside and in lobby felt unsafe.

This hotel obviously had the best rate: amenities ratio, but the staff was super helpful and cheerful (thanks Kelly!). The breakfast selection was a bit less than expected, but was promptly filled every time anything went empty. All in all, good value and great customer help.

I did read the reviews about the cleanliness issues, but decided to book a night anyway. My feelings about those types of complaints are that people are too picky. However, this time they were spot on.
My stay was mostly bad, but here were a couple of good things that I'll mention later. I'm not a fussy person and I don't expect much when the cost is low. I do expect the room and hotel to be something above a flophouse, though. I wouldn't say Red Roof in San Marcos is quite a flophouse, but there were some gross things in my room.
There isn't an elevator and there's a shabby appearance to most things. The rooms (both rooms that I occupied) smelled moldy as well, but that wasn't as alarming as the other problems with the room.
My room wasn't cleaned beforehand. When I walked into my room, I noticed a bar of soap was unwrapped and by the sink and had been used. On closer observation, there was a used styrofoam coffee cup by the coffee maker. I noticed something spilled on the bed skirt and pulled back the covers to see that there were signs that the sheets weren't changed such as hair and stains. The bed was made up, though, and the trash had been emptied.
On a side note, the windows are very flimsy and have a simple latch. I was located on the backside and felt a little unsafe (the back part of the hotel sits closely to a fence and there’s all kinds of weird detritus between the wall and the fence), but I would have stayed in the room if it weren't for the fact it wasn't cleaned. That is something to keep in mind if you’re concerned about security.
I called the front desk and the manager was very apologetic. That was one of the good experiences. He did offer the excuse that the housekeeper thought that the man who previously occupied my room was going to return. However, I wouldn't say that is really housekeeping's fault, but because of poor management. The manager moved me upstairs, so I packed my stuff after a long and tiring day and lugged my suitcase up the stairs.
There was still the weird moldy smell in the upstairs room and my window was unlatched. However, being on the second floor, I wasn't too concerned about security. That was probably the second good thing because I felt safer. There were various stains on the curtains and furniture, but these were old stains and they did not concern me as much.
When I took my shower the next morning, the tub didn’t drain. I tried not to think about what was clogging the drain as I took a quick shower.
So, I'm just adding my review to the others. You will probably get a "clean" enough room if you go there, and the price is right if you like to economize. The staff is friendly enough. You'll just have to take your chance.

It was all right for a one night stay. It is convenient being next to the freeway. But how do you ignore and not fix or repair the little things that need repaired? I hate when management make up excuses when they respond to your negative review. You know you have these problems and too cheap to do anything until you get called out on it. So I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
