You’ll need to plan on extra time to get to see here because this place is off the charts busy. There is almost always a wait to get seated but that wait is more than worth it. Probably one of the best Mexican restaurant in the West Denver area Mexican restaurants are really the only competition. Try anything with their Molly or green chili sauce and you’ll be happy as a taco.

I've been to Red Iguana twice, both times have been very good. We came on a random Saturday in early April and it was very busy, both Red Iguana and Red Iguana 2 (yes there are two locations, both within minutes of one another), about a 30-45 min wait for either. All the food looked great, but I feel as though the mole is the thing to get (a more traditional dish) and that you can't get at a lot of other Mexican restaurants. The Mole Negro was one of my top choices, this time I chose the Mango Mole (beware however that this is served only as two enchiladas instead of the standard style and you'll likely still be hungry).

If you want to try all the mole flavors, just ask and the waiter will give you a small plate with a sample of each to decide which you like best. The staff is friendly and the restaurant itself is courteous. When we were waiting outside in the chill rainy weather, the restaurant offered tiny cups of hot cider to the people waiting, definitely hit the spot. The host gave a woman a restaurant umbrella to use in the rain as she waited. And of course a waitress came by often to refill our chips and water a good amount of times. Considering all this even with the crowd, I'd recommend stopping here if in town

OMG. AMAZING! you know it's good when there's a 40 min. Wait on a Monday night. And it was worth every second of waiting. The best Mexican food I have ever had.. great portions and fair prices. As well as great service and friendly staff. Fun and relaxing atmosphere and very quick service. I will definitely be coming back here.

Simply outstanding Tex-Mex food. There is always a crowd of people waiting outside on the sidewalk to get in. It is that good. Well worth the wait to get onside. The food is very tasty. They'll bring you more fresh tortillas if you ask. Was voted #1 on the top ten list of where to eat in Salt Lake City. Most definetely.

Our annual pilgrimage after a week of Wasatch mountains skiing for over 20 years (before DD&D spilled the beans). Always an hour (or more) wait on weekends, but worth the wait. Excellent service, awesome food (moles are extra special), fresh ingredients, great margaritas. Can't ask for anything more. Spice heat seemed to be dialed down some from a couple years ago, so next time I will ask for more 'authentic' flavoring - love that forehead perspiration inducing heat.

This has got to be the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been. Despite the size of the place or having to wait outside for a short time, this place was worth every minute. Fresh food, ingredients and amazing prep. The flavors were just to die for. I would go again and again. Not to mention it was reasonable with its pricing as well.

Dazzling space composed of cozy rooms, providing an intimate feeling and arousing visual interest among the various colors and themes throughout the restaurant. The food was among the best Mexican food I've tasted in a while, comprising perfectly flavored and cooked steak, freshly fell from the bone shredded pork, and divinely caramelised fried ice cream. Service was attentive but sometimes slow to keep up with intense customer traffic. Overall, one of the best Mexican restaurant experiences I've had in a long time! ❤️

If you like mole, they've got seven different kinds.
If you like traditional Mexican fare, they've got great food.
If you like twists on traditional dishes, they've got those too.
Desserts? Scrumptious.
Refill on chips and salsa quick, always had my water topped off.
It's a cramped environment, but when you've been in the same building for 30 years, it tends to get that way
Just make sure to lock your car! ;)

The Red Iguana lives up to the hype from the hole in the wall atmosphere to the wait times to the quality of the food. Besides having a large menu, Red Iguana's dishes are unique enough to make this a better Mexican meal than most. I opted for the combo platter and was pleased with the variety of my selection. My meal mate got a pumpkin seed mole. Try finding something like that at Tony's Taco Heaven (I hope there isn't a place with that name). Anyway, good stuff but plan to wait for a while.

The restaurant was highly recommended for authentic Mexican food. However, I have had much better with smaller, family run restaurants. I could not help but feel the menu was not adventurous and the meals - while certainly a cut above many westernized Mexican restaurants - were pedestrian. The highlights of my meal was the margarita, and the hot sauces, which were all beautifully complex in their own ways.
Was the 40 min wait to get into the restaurant worth it? Yes. But only just.

To each their own, I guess. But honestly, I don't understand the appeal of this place. I love Mexican food, but I don't get what all the fuss is about with this place's offerings — good, but not all that good (at least to me).

It's way too crowded and cramped. It seems like something of a dive, but hey, I guess that's what many people find interesting about it. We ended up having to sit at a table with strangers, which was a little uncomfortable, but seems to be something of the norm there. I guess I just don't get it. Still, I'll likely not be going back anytime soon.

You know a place is good if you have 20 feet line out of the door in the winter. Don't worry there are heaters and they give some hot tea. Great place very good food priced very fair $10-25.

Top 3 best Mexican food I've ever had (enchiladas suizas)!!! Being a Texan in another state, good Mexican food is home away from home. The strawberry margaritas are also really good (come none alcohol too). I wish I was staying in town longer so I could come back and try the rest of the menu. FYI: around 2:00 there was a 15 minute wait.

Red Iguana is a local favorite.
I'm a California transplant from New Mexico so its hard to impress me with Mexican food. Hard to top mom and grandma but the Chile Verde worked hard and won me over !!
My husband had the Chile Colorado and I snuck a few bites. I wasn't impressed. I think I was hoping for more of a red Chile flavor and it tasted more like a mole. I ordered flour tortillas which are a staple. Although not made on site they were pretty tasty. I should have had at least one of their corn tortillas which are freshly made everyday. The salsa is amazing!
A few things I didn't love but didn't keep me from a five star recommendation : The tea isn't brewed. Chips were ok.
Ask for the mole sampler. It's free and you get to try all six flavors of mole.

Incredible! Freaking incredible!

There's always a wait, but it is well worth it. I had the chicken mole' 2 ways. They have like 8 different variations of gourmet Mole' and choosing which ones you want would be difficult. But not here, my server brought me a plate with each kind and explained each one. The atmosphere was cool, if not a little bit funky, but it all works! The service was too notch! And the prices were good for the portions and food quality.

If for some reason you find yourself in Salt Lake City, i highly recommend that you eat here. It's worth the wait.
