Within the Jefferson National Forest, this range is basically gouged out of a shale rich hill and is equipped with sheltered benches and tables with moveable seats to accommodate users on one side or the other, but not both. Self-regulated "cold" times are advised every :30 minutes.
Bring your own targets and supports, as the original steel supports have been reduced to stumps. A single pit toilet, trash bin and target receptacle are provided and a Donation box is on-site to help offset the cost of maintenance.
Overall a nice place to shoot with friendly, helpful patrons.

Great range and it's free and just up the road from my home. The only thing that would be better it the State straightened out state highway Rt311. Some of the turns on Rt311 up that way are very dangerous so beware if you plan on going there. Weekends are packed and you can expect to wait up to 45mins to an hour before you get a lane. It's closed on Tuesday for Park Rangers to do their weekly maintenance.

Four stars because it's free, but tbh all the bullet holes in the wooden posts make me a Little nervous also because no RO.

This is one of my favorite parts of Craig County. It's a free outdoor shooting range. What's not to like.

Small range,1/3 the size of the Blacksburg range, but not at all crowded like Blacksburg that sees hundreds per day, mostly college kids. The range has a considerable amount of gain slope. (Yes enough to a make point of impact difference vs level line) I like the row of steel at 50. Overall very nice place. Rifle, pistol only though. Needs a shotgun range/skeet range.
