What can I say? I love, love, love this place. We had a terrible experience with another vet in town, switched to PAH and have never looked back. Dr. Chapman is seriously the BEST person & vet. She explains everything in ways you can understand, draws pictures to show you what's going on and includes your input and wishes in your pet's treatment plan. She's great with eye issues (I have a bug-eyed dog) and takes a common-sense approach when it comes to treatments. Dr. Helmholdt is the "heart guy" and you should definitely see him if your pet has a heart issue or if you need a second opinion. He is wonderful and really cares about the work he does. I've only spoken to Dr. Lunney over the phone once but she was kind and patient with my questions. The techs and staff are all great too. They know me and my dog by name. The building is basically brand new and they have ultrasound capabilities. They also have a beautiful, calm room where they do their euthanasia services (I hope you never need it but it's comforting when you do). This place is wonderful and I can't say enough nice things about Portage Animal Hospital. If you are in need of a vet that will care for your pet the way it deserves, definitely make an appointment. You will not be disappointed.

We love the staff at Portage Road so much. They've taken such great care of all 4 of our dogs Even the grouchy one. Couldn't ask for a better team. Especially Dr Chapman who tries so very hard to be Sevilles friend, even when he's being grouchy.

Wonderful vets and staff. They seem to genuinely care for and like our furballs. They were very considerate and thoughful when we had to euthanize a loved one and have provided great care to our younger pets for several years.

VCA did in one day what my last clinic couldn’t do in 3 months. After a series of tests and consults I find out my English Bulldog has a heart condition that my last vet clinic didn’t even consider. I made the switch to Dr. Hemholt and it could possibly save my dog’s life.

I do NOT recommend bringing your pets here. Check out YELP reviews!!! Very unprofessional and rude. They probably have 5 stars on their website because they delete all the bad reviews. Look on Yelp for the truth. Suprised they have a 2.5, should be lower.

Worst experience Ever was asking the vet questions about prices when she said I cant handle this and said you can talk to the doctor. And then walked out 15 mins later the doctor came in and said your pets are up to date on their shots which they should have known when i booked the apt a week ago then said you cant treat my staff bad and escorted me my wife and dogs out my wife said you should talk to customer's before you make accusation and she closed the door horriable people not friendly and scared the crap out of our furr babies and when I was asking how much each test and shot was she said I should probally go somewhere else if I want cheap vaccines

The Vets here really care about animals. Great vet techs that help the Drs. Knowledgeable and caring front desk
This place is clean, efficient and Drs are the best. They do own lab work and have an updated, ultrasound. Dr. Chapman is the smartest and most caring vet I have ever had.response / report this review -

Love this place. My dog has had many health problems, so we've seen every vet at the hospital. She has been boarded there as well. I would recommend Portage Animal Hospital to anyone. All of the staff really care there, and they are very good with animals. My dog likes to release her bowelsand pee when they pick her up, but the staff still love my dog, and are really good with her.

In 32 years of breeding, showing ,owning rescue pets It's wonderful to have run across true animal lovers that go more then the extra mile for there clients four and two legged! It's been so refreshing ! I couldn't put my pets in better hands Thank you for being here for us. Alli and Julia

I have know the owner, Dr Andy Helmholt for many years. Before he had his own practice in Portage, he worked for me at the Kalamazoo Animal Hospital and the Texas Corners Animal Hospital. Dr Helmholdt is a very good veterinarian and has a excellent support staff. Portage Animal Hospital has developed a reputation of excellence. Many of my own clients board their pets at his hospital and always remark how well their pets are treated and how friendly his staff is.

Outstanding pet and people care! Having moved from the Portage area, I measure each new vet office to the standard of care experienced at Portage Animal Hospital. They hold themselves to a high standard of clinical excellence and it's worth every penny for your pet.
