It is cool seeing and learning a bit about Lake Erie and it's history. The monument is accompanied by a display in the visitor's center, and you can go on tours inside (after the current repairs). I would highly recommend visiting the area!

If simply judging by the grounds and memorial alone, this wouldn't be that terribly interesting of a national memorial, but the visitor center and the ranger programs are pretty darn good. The video running in the auditorium is also quite well done, an emotional telling of the battle leading to Perry's victory. They had a simple slogan going into the battle, "Don't Give Up the Ship".

What I also found interesting, and quite touching, was the explanation from the ranger about the "International Peace" portion of the memorial's official title. While this place does commemorate a harrowing naval battle during the War of 1812, it also commemorates the lasting peace that has remained along the longest undefended border in the world, as well as the peace and friendship gained over the years between Great Britain and her former colonies Canada/USA.

I liked it quite a bit for those aspects, despite the small size of the area. It makes for quite an addition to Put-in-Bay, a great place to go for free admission. I wasn't actually able to enter the monument tower due to renovations this year, but I don't think my opinion would uprate had I been to the top.

Its all right. Not much to do except look at the memorial. Probably a history buff can get a lot out of this.

Great museum and it's free! They were even giving out free posters over the Labor Day weekend. The museum covers Perry and the Battle of Lake Erie and does a really thorough job of it. The memorial tower was not open this time but we saw it last year and it provided a terrific view of the surrounding area. This year they had a musket demonstration which was interesting.

Great place to take the family. Good learning history. Great views from the top. BEST FIREWORKS DISPLAY in area. Call ahead to make sure its open and not having repairs done. Lots to do on South Bass island other then monument. Can make a full day of events for the family.

Always enjoyable visiting Perry's Monument. Unfortunately the Monument observation deck and plaza is closed to the public in 2017. They are doing repairs and cleaning. Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial's Visitor Center remains open however, and is worth checking out. It's free to enter. In the Visitor Center you can watch a 15 minute video chronicling the War of 1812 and Battle of Lake Erie. You can also learn about the peace that has endured since the War of 1812 amongst the United States, UK, and Canada. Finally, you can get a detailed look at the construction of the Memorial.

Amazing place. The interpretive center is top notch and the monument is stunning. If you love history it's a must-see. It's the 4th tallest monument in the U.S.

Recently had an opportunity to visit Perry's Monument. The island, the Lake, the grounds, the landscaping were all splendid. The staff, very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of accessibility for the handicapped. I hear the views from the top of Perry's Monument are spectacular, but as the monument is surrounded by stairs, and no wheelchair access is available, I was unable to access the elevators to ride to the top and enjoy the vistas!

What a WONDERFUL little park.

I'd just like to preface this with the fact that the Monument does cost 5$ to go up to the top!

The monument is up a set of stairs to the base of the monument and then up a spiral staircase to an elevator where you pay 5 dollars, take an elevator to the very top. You can see so much from up here. Around 15 islands total, one of which is a Canadian island, and on the horizon you can just barely see mainland Canada. Bring some binoculars!

You can not put anything on the ledge for fear of dropping something off the edge and hitting someone at the base. This rule is very strictly enforced (with good reason). The rangers at the top are happy to answer questions regarding the history of the battle that took place here, and anything you can see from up here.

There is a building that sits about 100 yards away from the base of the monument that is dedicated to the history of the Put-In-Bay. They have a short 15 minute movie that is for free, and a ranger gives a speech a few times a day regarding what happened here between Britain and the US.

All the rangers here are so nice and helpful with any questions. It isn't the most extravagant park (mainly being this building, and the monument itself) but it is a very nice way to spend an hour of your day at Put In Bay.

Always a great place to visit and on a clear day the view from the top is amazing. Rangers there are pretty knowledgeable about history and the area. Note that shorter children may have a hard time seeing over the wall at the top and they are pretty strict about standing at least a couple of feet back from the wall when holding a child up. The visitor center located just a short walk from the monument is nice and has a fair amount of the history of the monument itself.

If you have a hard time with stairs or are wheelchair bound, you'll have to settle for seeing the monument from the outside. Entering the bottom of the monument, there are a few steps down to the inside. To get to the top, however; you must climb a narrow curving staircase the equivalent of about 2 floors to the elevator level where you buy a (pretty inexpensive) ticket if you are an adult. Kids are free. The elevator itself is small and they won't take more than 10 people on any one trip up or down. Once at the top you can stay as long as you like and if you keep your receipt, you can come back for free, even the next day.

Definitely a "must visit" when visiting the island. We try to go every year. There were a number of years where the monument was closed for emergency repairs when a SLAB of marble fell over 300 feet to the ground. Luckily no one was hurt. If you are afraid of heights, this isn't too bad because there's no noticeable sway at all. My youngest son is terrified of heights and he was fine and even enjoyed it because the solid wall in front of him made him feel safer.
