In short, I would rate this as poor range if you're looking to do some serious shooting. The only advantages is has are that it's in a nice outdoor setting, and it has a longer range that is good for sighting in rifles. It's a lovely setting to shoot at. In the middle of the woods, covered booths to shoot from, and seating for non-shooters. It would be a nice place to sight in a rifle or teach a new person how to shoot. But if I'm looking to get some serious shooting in, I would go elsewhere.

There is a LOT of downtime at this range. There are no zip line systems at this range, so in order to change out your targets, you must walk down range. This requires that once every 10 minutes or so, there must be a 5-10 minute cease fire, which is a big process of setting all your weapons up for storage, flipping some signs, roping your area off, then sitting and waiting for that process to finish. Your shooting will be interrupted often.

They also don't allow any rapid fire. When I go to the range, it's to practice shooting. This means I want to practice shooting in the same manner which I plan to shoot out in the real world, self defense type shooting. So I do practice slow fire to work on technique, but I also practice rapid fire. I can't remember exactly, but their "safety video" says to take 2 or 3 seconds in between shots. Even if I'm just doing somewhat quick firing, and not just emptying a magazine as fast as possible, that still wouldn't be allowed here.

So in short, this range is a great place to take your kids or someone who is brand new to shooting, or if you want to sight in a new rifle, but I would never go here by myself to do any serious shooting.

Great range. Handgun & rifle sides. They provide eyewear, ear protection, & targets for $3/hr. I've taken the family to shoot. Free classes too. Missouri Conservation Department does a great job.

Big Brother is Watching. First you have to sit through a training movie. Then you may proceed. After you read a two sided instruction sheet. Commit all this to memory. You have a black, orange, and green flipper sign to manage. You have a plastic chain to hook and unhook. You have to rack your weapon. You have to insert a plastic guard it your bolt will not stay open by it self. You have to rack and keep an open slide on your pistol. You have to carry your pistol in action open and pointed up. (most unnatural) You have to wait for commands over the speaker and move only when the herd moves. You have men in the glass booth watching your every move. You have men on foot walking the firing line behind you. You may not proceed until they see everyone has followed the rules.
Oh and only fire once every three seconds!
If you have handled firearms since you were 10-11, holstered and carried a weapon daily, slept with your rifle you will hate it here.
I have enough stress already. I do not play well with others. I walked away form this without firing a shot. I will never be back.
They would make 40 rules on how to wipe your butt.

Price is very reasonable but such strict marshaling is not conducive to any meaningful practice. There are no provisions for kneeling or prone firing positions (bench rest is pretty much your only option). Was sufficient for familiarizing my wife, but I'd never come here to actually develop my shooting skills.

The second problem is that they make you shoot like a grandma. When I go to the range, it's to practice shooting. This means I want to practice shooting in the same manner which I plan to shoot out in the real world. I don't practice for hunting, taking 1 shot every few hours. I practice for defensive shooting. So I do practice slow shooting to work on technique, but I also practice rapid fire. This range prohibits rapid fire. I can't remember exactly, but their "safety video" says to take 2 or 3 seconds in between shots. Well that's great, but I don't want to be limited to slow fire.

So in short, this range is a great place to take your kids or someone who is brand new to shooting, but I would never go here by myself to do any serious shooting.

I am 10 years old and I had a wonderful time at Parma woods. Its a very clean, professional, fun place to shoot, hunt, tree naming, and many other things. If you are looking for a safe place to do your hobby, Parma woods is a great place to go.

This is the best range in KC. No question about it. I live it because it is safe. Surprisingly extremely affordable, and their staff is the best and very attentive. They even offer training. When my kids get a little older I will take them to this range exclusively. It just feels safer than any other range.

Very safe place with short and long range area's (up to 100 yards). They provide eye and ear protection, if needed.

This is a very safe gun range. The facility is top notch. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to shoot in a safe environment.

Safest Range within 25 miles of Leavenworth Kansas that I know of. Great place to shoot. They have a rifle side with targets set up at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards. Handgun range with targets at 7, 15, 20, 25 and 50 yards. There is also a Bow range.

Additionally, the Parma Woods staff does all kinds of FREE training events. A sample of the events I have taken there include, shed antler hunting, morel mushroom hunting, tree identification, building a rabbit trap, outdoor cooking, handgun, rifle and skeet shooting. All the firearms training there had the weapons and ammo provided at no cost to me. They even cleaned the weapons afterwards.

If you are looking for a good place to shoot, you won't find a more professional, knowledgeable and friendly place to do it in the Kansas City area that I know of. The biggest draw for me is that it is the SAFEST shooting range I have EVER been to in Kansas or Missouri!
