This is one scary little airport. I was flying a Grumman Traveler and on final while the altimeter was reading 500 feet the cacti were a lot closer to my wing that 500 feet.
This airport may be great for pilots who have total disregard for the public and like to fly very low over peoples houses. One time, Larry had students shutting off the engines of planes directly over our house, a big no no. Most recently pilots have been skimming the ridge, just above our house, disturbing our peace at 7 and 8 in the morning. When I called in and asked Larry who it could be that would have such bad manners, he told me " some of our pilots do not like to follow the rules". Wow! What a response! Well let this be a lesson: inbred rednecks and planes simply do not mix. Imagine a fourteen year old pimple faced teenage trailer trash revving the engine of his 1969 Chevy Chevelle 454 across the street from your house day in, day out. Heck, that gives me a good idea, lets have a muscle car rally across the street from Larry's house! 6 am to start. Perfect!
Great Airport! One of the last few airports where good people who love aviation hang out.
Larry is a wealth of knowledge, and most of the pilots there have forgot more than I can hope to learn!
It's a party on the border with planes.
