One of my needed an ultrasound of his liver today. My experience with Dr. Roberts and his staff was exceptional. He was very thorough in his explanation of the procedure and his staff was attentive to my dog's needs and comfort. In a difficult situation, I was happy to have a pleasant experience.

I've heard this place is all about the money, and I'm starting to believe it. We almost put my cat down because they took x-rays and ran tests and told us she had a neurological illness. She couldn't walk straight. We took her to Dr. Mitchell (a discount vet in the area) and he immediately saw her tail was broken. He had them send over the x-ray and it was blatantly obvious where her tail was broken. I would hate to think they just wanted money, but these are trained professionals. The break was obvious once Dr. Mitchell pointed it out. We almost put our cat down because of what they told us. She is only 3years old. She's going to be fine. I will only be returning to this place if it's an absolute emergency. I will be watching them closely if I must return. Go to Dr. Mitchell in McKaysville. He's not in it for the money; He just wants to help your animals.

For everyone who visits MEAC, I'll start of by saying I'm biased since I'm the medical director. Since there is no way to respond to a Google post, I'm using this review to do so.
1) Running a 24/7 ER is expensive! Our overhead is much higher than a daytime practice, our staff requirements are much different: regarding experience and skill-set which is more costly. The products we MUST have such as blood, plasma, antivenin, and other antidotes for poisons are extremely expensive.
2) We do not get any support from any government or other agency with costs; therefore the only way we can maintain a business is to charge pet owners. I constantly hear owners say "this is more expensive than going to a human hospital"FYI: my son was in the Union Co. Hospital ER in Dec. 2016 for 2 hours having lab work an IV and an ultrasound -- the bill was $5000! We do all of that same testing and keep your pet in the hospital for a day for a fraction of that cost.
3) "You're an ER, you should treat my pet for nothing" --We would quickly go out of business if we did this. I would like someone with this attitude to explain to my staff why I need to cut their wages or benefits or why I need to terminate their employment. We employee over 2 dozen people in YOUR community who depend on our business to feed their families.
4) "All you care about is money" No one goes into veterinary medicine to become wealthy. All of the doctors and staff are paid a salary. Unfortunately, since costs are a major factor because most persons do not have pet insurance, we must provide estimates for our recommendations. I assure everyone who reads this that we truly care and treat your beloved pet if it was our own.
5) Stray animals: MEAC will provide care for strays at no charge--IF the person who brings in the stray will transport it somewhere. None of the shelters in N Ga, SE Tenn or the Carolinas have veterinarians on duty. We do this as a service to the community but need more help, especially from persons who bring in the strays.

My wife took a neighborhood stray cat to get checked out as he was limping on his paw. We asked to be told what could be wrong and the potential costs that he might need to get better.

While waiting to get information on programs that might be available if the costs were to high for us, the vet decided to euthanize him with zero consultation.

At least we were not charged the $100 consultation fee.

This place is a nightmare . it has taken me almost 2 months to be mentally able enough to write this review after this place let my baby girl die . (I have never wanted to bust a doctor in the mouth any more than I did when we arrived back at the clinic for the 2nd time with a very near death baby girl . ) My husband and I brought our 4 year old shihtzu in to this clinic on January 27 , it was a Friday night around 8pm because she had been throwing up for the most part of the day . She was a very sick little girl . and you see , mesha wasn't just any dog , she had belonged to my sister first , but when my sister shot herself back I'm 2013 and the authorities found a very scared and shaken little mesha in her room , it was a tough road for little mesha in,the beginning but together she and I got thru many sad days and from the first time the cops brought her to me at my mom's that terrible morning , she never left my side . she was mine and my husbands whole world . I explained this to the vet but it didn't seem to matter to him . She stayed in the room with us for the majority of our visit to this God forsaken place , and had they checked her out and tried to find out what was causing her sickness then maybe she would still be with us , but no that wasn't the case . the vet was more concerned with how much money we had and if we could even afford to be in this clinic to start with . all he kept talking about and spending his time on was the money end . and there is no limit on the amount of money that I wouldn't spend on my meshas well being and life . but you see we don't dress up and we probably appear to not have a dime to our names . that's how he made me feel . we ended up paying over 500 here for less than 10 minutes of care for my dog and when the vet said the blood wasn't concerning to him I should have left there and taken her to another clinic that would check and see what was causing this . now looking back I think mesha had HGE , and with treatment she could have survived it , but when we took her home rather than leaving her here for IV and aggressive treatment , she didn't have a chance . we live an hour from this clinic so when he said she would do fine at home . then I opted to bring her home . I wish this vet would have told me that my dog wouldn't make it unless I left her in hospital , but he assured me she would be fine going home with us . do not trust these people and do not waste your money here .,the January 27th crew working did not care about my dog . and it has felt like losing a child .,i have never grieved so hard and hurt so deep . and please don't respond to this mountain care . the reason I had to wait this long to write this review was because I Don't think i can cope with your response . nothing you say will bring her back . or make up for not seeing about her and trying to find out what was making her so sick . you people need to learn about HGE .

It was about 1:30am and my female Pitbul was having her first puppy and it got stuck! we tried to get it out at home but wasn't having any luck. the Puppy was dead and toxins were soon to be released into my dog which would have caused her to die. We live in hayesville and we couldn't find any vets open near us. THANK GOD we found this animal hospital. they took her in without any issue and removed the deceased puppy and our Layah was FINE! :D HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I went to Mountain Emergency Animal Center in Blue Ridge today for the first time with my 14-year-old Shih Tzu Shelby. Shelby needed an ultrasound to see if there was a mass causing her frequent and sometimes bloody urination. Our regular vet had already ruled out UTI and more via tests. Brian Roberts, DVM, allowed me to assist his tech in holding Shelby on her back (she was not sedated) while he shaved her tummy and performed the ultrasound. The professionalism, bed side manner and communication of Dr. Roberts and his staff exceeded that of many doctors I've received care from. He walked me through every detail of the ultrasound. Since I was helping hold Shelby, I got to see everything on the screen. When he found the bladder cancer mass, he explained it in detail. He answered questions. No rush. We received exceptional care and service. They have gained a new client.

The staff was so caring during my dog's last hour. They treated him as he was passing with such caring tenderness. I was treated with care and comfort. The staff is wonderful. My family misses our pet and knowing his last hour was handled so caringly is a great comfort to us. Thank you so much for your caring and respect you gave my pet and me.

Thank you so much for saving my grand puppy! He means the world to us and we were so scared we would loss him. All of the staff and doctors worked tirelessly to save my pup. They communicated all concerns to us and were overwhelmingly caring! I can never thank you guys enough!!! My eternal gratitude!

We were in there this past Sunday (05/29) with our ailing 13 y/o chihuahua Bingo. Dr. Richardson was the vet on duty and it so happened that chihuahuas are her specialty. She got Bingo feeling decent again (stomach malady of some sort, we think) and saved our weekend of camping near Blairsville. Glad to know that MEAC is there if we need them.
