Absolutely gorgeous views! Truly amazing. The house is beautiful. The entire first floor is a craft gift shop. The crafts are expensive and beautiful. The staff was really only there to sell craft items and didn't seem to want to discuss the home.

Great find right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beautiful historic house on bequeathed property with gorgeous views and trails. Multi-artisan shop on first floor. Wow - what a selection! An extremely talented woodworker/cabinetmaker was demonstrating his craft while we were there. Stunning small/mini boxes with practical uses in dozens of gorgeous woods. Expensive for me but drool-worthy. Access to rest of house by limited tour only.

Gah, I love this place! I've been hiking around the Cone for years. Mostly at night as it is so incredibly busy during the day. I mean it folks, arrive early to get a parking spot and to avoid residing on the side of the road.
The trails are pretty amazing. Beautiful and well maintained. They aren't very strenuous either. Please note: As of late Oct. 2017, the trail to the lake has been closed due to flooding.
Can't speak highly enough about the cone. Beautiful, fresh, and busy super crowded during the day :)response / report this review -

One of my favorite places on NC blue ridge pkwy side. It is beautiful, excellent scenic views from many points. Great old house looks great on that hill and it has a lot of interesting stuff inside. There is parking there, a lot of it, but you may want to find a spot closer to the center so you don't walk through dirt. Restrooms in old stables. A lot of trails, places for picnic. A lot of horse droppings too, be careful.

This is a great spot to take a walk and take in the scenery. The manor has a breathtaking view from it's front porch that are filled with chairs for you enjoyment. Inside the house is an arts and craft shop and visitor center of a sort. Once in a while, they also have local craft men or women demonstrating and telling about their art. It's always a pleasure to learn and hear their stories. There is also a great fall hike to the lake on the property if you choose. The restrooms are localed farther to the left from the manor where the wheelchair accessible ramps are. In the winter with snow, this place is magical.

Beautiful place to visit! Steps are not very steep leading down to the house so that may be helpful if you have mobility issues. Very nice well kept trails & facilities. Parking is limited however so you may have to park on the side of the entrance rd or you can do like we did & circle until someone is pulling out. There are also horse trails. The house over looks a beautiful Lake. Definitely worth going & spending the day.

Beautiful old mansion/craft gallery along Blue Ridge parkway. Great views that you can enjoy from rocking chairs on the porch. Several nice, fairly easy trails for hiking. We went on a trail that stays in the woods that was great for shade but had no open views. A different trail stays on the ridge so has great views. A larger parking lot is needed.

We walked to the fire watch tower, and the view was fantastic. The walk up was steep and long, but it was well worth it at the end. Everyone should walk this at some point.

This historic manor is a must visit. Flat Top Manor is right on the Parkway at mile marker 294. Visiting the gift shop inside the manor will give you a peek at the home. No tours are offered. The manor is placed at the top of a most scenic bowl looking down toward Blowing Rock. All that you see looking out used to be an apple orchard. There are carriage roads to hike in multiple directions. Yes you may meet local horse back riders out on the trails as well. There are 2 additional trail heads to visit, Bass Lake and Trout Lake. Following the carriage roads down the ridge will give you a chance to experience the interior of the Appalachians.

Beautiful views and well kept hiking and horse trails. Perfect for hiking with kids and babies. The craft center is always nice to visit!

Unsuspected beauty (both structure and grounds) that we didn't plan enough time to explore. We walked the 5 mile round trip to the observation tower through woods and large open fields (that yielded long range views) on an amazingly well manicured trail. The grandeur, detail and scale of the estate's home marveled us.
