Mississippi River Headwaters

  Short and accessible hike from parking lot. Standing and walking in the headwaters, can almost have a spiritual feeling. Wrapping your head around that the water passing you will reach the Gulf of Mexico.
  
  The site was crowded, which meant some of the magic was lost. Take advantage of using the stairs to walk across the Mississippi. Caution the stairs can be slippery.

  Interesting place to learn about the headwaters of the Mississippi River, and to walk across the river. Be warned, you need a vehicle permit to visit the park, they want you to pay online, but there’s no phone service at the entrance. We drove back out and finally got signal and went through the hassle to make an account for a one time pass. We get to the gift shop and they sell the permits there, which we would have gladly done and saved ourselves the hassle. Back to the river, it’s beautiful, and water temperature was comfortably cool. It was fun watching the kids play in the water.

  An opportunity to walk across the Mississippi River great picture options. Makes a great family picture. The only cost is a state park pass a variety of lengths of days are available.

  Nice visit to see the head water. Very dry this summer on the grass. Lake looks nice. Be sure to take the wilderness drive loop about 30 to 45 minutes the loop

  such a fun experience to be able to walk across the headwaters of the mississippi. a fun and informative morning was had! the big rocks are SLIPPERY! but if you just walk in the water you can more easily get across
