Old and smelly. Bad service. Both slow and not courteous. The food was very good though. All and all I wouldn't go back

Disappointing. Was told brusquely on arrival that we had no reservation Even showing the confirmation email barely changed the attitude. But in fairness the Maitre d' sent us to the bar and at my request after 10 minutes informed us a table would be ready in 8 minutes and the drinks were comped. Servers seemed not to communicate with each other and food was good but not great. The piece of sole picata was half the size as my last visit and not so lemony. No more silver domed plate covers as years ago. But price was not bad. Probably won't go back since it's a long drive from La Quinta.

Had a first look, renovations continue, looking good so far. But room rates are far above our pain level. No matter we will still make frequent use of their wonderful bar with Bobby making sure our drinks are just right. Right along with Danny who runs the front desk along with just about every other service customers need. The dining room looks well thought out, we need to make reservation to test out the menu.

Had the worse experience in dining EVER!!!!!
We were celebrating a "special birthday" that night as a group with our dear friend. The night was plated to be a magnificent experience with our friends! Our server was not properly trained to do his job as a server. Side dishes were served as appetizers and buyer beware of your oyster experience! We were told there were no Blue Point Oysters but managed to be server Oysters Rockefeller ( must have been previously prepared)
There were 6 in our party and only 4 entrees arrived! It got worse, but I will leave it there Go to Spencer's for the best experience.response / report this review -

Following a recommendation, we came to Melvyns. Here are the highlightsMy wife asked for a balsamic vinegar dressing for her salad. She was brought the dual glass bottles that are usually red wine vinegar in one and olive oil in the other. No problem, that works too. However, we found out after dressing the salad, that the vinegar was in fact Worcestershire sauce. Someone must have mixed it up somehow, and we tried to let them know, however it was no use. The waitress claimed that she had tried it and "it tasted spicy but I like spicy". I don't think she had a clue what red wine vinegar tastes like. I have to wonder what kind of oil was in the olive oil container. They brought us a new salad, but what is the use of that? No balsamic, and no vinegar, and my wife didn't touch it. She ended up eating the carrots that came with my steakMy rib eye - below average, and they refused to make me a salad. My father did enjoy his salmon ceasar, but then, we have the elderly drunk actually falling *up* the stairs from the mens room. He even started cursing and blaming my father for his fall after my father offered to help the drunk up.
Looking back on the recommendation, I think that we may have been told to go there for a drink and to enjoy the piano music. We just made a huge mistake eating there.response / report this review -

As described by another reviewer, nice ambiance and good service but the food is mediocre. They need a new chef. We had the oysters Rockefeller, they oysters were tiny, hardly knew they were there. My pate was good, I love pate, but I was half way through it before they arrived with the toast points. My husbands scallops over linguine was good but I had the veal Oscar, it was awful. One piece of veal, it had been pan fried but the white wine sauce was so watery, the veal was mushy and they hadn't cooked off the white wine so it had that bitter taste of wine, and too much wine. The crab on top was tasteless, they didn't season it at all, normally you sauté in butter and garlic or something and then season but it's like they just took it out of the tin and placed on top of the veal. The vegetables were flavourless and the supposed scallop potatoes were not scallop potatoes. We were at Le Vallauris and La Spiga earlier in our stay and they are heads above for the same pricing. We enjoy the lounge at Melvyn's, good drinks and piano music and singing but you really need to do something about the food. Will never come back for the food, too many other great places to go in the desert.

We were recommended to come to Melvyn's, presumably because of the "old school" Hollywood charm. While the service and ambiance was not lacking, our meal was terrible. As in, do not eat here unless you have no taste buds. My husband described our meal as "food you get in a nursing home." Bland, mushy, poorly seasoned, zero flavor. Filet mignon looked and tasted like it was previously frozen, over cooked, with what seemed like fake grill marks! (major sad face). However, we did enjoy our cocktails and our appetizers (oysters and crab cakes) but won't be returning.

Table side service is always terrific. The old school charm is gorgeous. Staff is always terrific. Great entertainment.
