This is truly one of the hidden getaway gems in NC. Great for couples and families, there is enough privacy for either. Boone , Blowing Rock and the Parkway are all close by.

As a professional NC wedding photographer, I love photographing outdoor weddings in the mountains! Leatherwood Mountains Resort is a fantastic venue which hosts a number of picturesque "woodsy" locations throughout the property to hold your ceremony or to take gorgeous pictures. There is a large riding arena near the main barns that is just perfect for holding a large wedding reception day or night.

I had my wedding at Leatherwood a couple weeks ago and only have positive things to say about the experience! The staff is incredible- attentive and dedicated to making your day everything you dreamed of! The venue itself is beautiful. Our family and friends had such a fun time there. The cabins are beautiful and in great condition. The hiking, horseback riding, and fishing at the resort are fantastic! I highly recommend Leatherwood for anything from a weekend away to a formal event!

We arrived on a Sunday and checked in easily. Our one bedroom studio cabin was very rustic, comfortable and cooking facilities were great. The window unit AC was in need of a good cleaning as the front was covered in dust bunnies. Wiped it down and found it worked fine to keep us comfortable. What would have been great would have been screened windows so we could have opened them to let in the fresh mountain air. Shower was lacking in water pressure but the bathroom was again just what one needs. We found the scenery and the grounds very well kept. Staff was very professional and friendly.. Five barn cat hanging around made the trip special as I am a cat lover and found the morning greeting from a large yellow and white cat very nice. We enjoyed the long walks we took around the grounds and enjoyed the quiet and the ability to wind down was easily achieved. Would love to come back in the Autumn of the year. Internet connections were good and phone was not able to pick up a signal at all. There was a land line in room, but we had no need for it. We are not horse lovers but if you are and if you like to ride this I place is your nirvana.

This is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The staff takes care of you as an old friend would. The rental cabins are so unique and are always perfect for getaways. The views are breathtaking. The equine facility is top notch and the trail system is fantastic. When I am at Leatherwood Mountains ResortI never want to leave. A true NC Mountain getaway that gets in your soul. My favorite place on earth!!

My family and I spent a terrific weekend at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. We stayed at Rollin' in the Hay and had other family at the resort as we had come to Ferguson for a family wedding. The view was breathtaking and the cabin was clean and comfortable.

Tried to book reservations. They said they would not be able to accommodate my wife who is legally blind. She has had lessons when she was young. All she needs is a horse that does not wander off. We have done trail riding in many places including Myrtle Beach, Wisconsin, Florida, but NEVER was anyone not willing to accommodate. NOT ADA compliant.

My wife and I just had our wedding here and everything from beginning to end was perfect. Abbie was our coordinator and her involvement from the initial planning stages to the day of the wedding itself was indispensable. My wife began planning months in advance and once we chose Leatherwood Abbie helped every step of the way. She made herself available at all times no matter what day of the week or time, she helped pick out vendors and coordinated schedules with them. You could tell she was passionate about our personal event and on the day of the wedding she and her staff shone. Every little thing was handled flawlessly and we could not have been happier.
As for the cabins, they were also fantastic. They were clean when we checked in and the views were phenomenal. Each cabin has privacy and quiet. We utilized 7 cabins for the bridal party, and family members and each one was excellent. There were no complaints from anyone over the entire weekend. I would say that one needs to come prepared. Bring food, and any odds and ends you might not think you need. The cabins will have most amenities, and anything they don't have the front office at the bottom of the mountain will be more than happy to provide, but it's a bit of a drive (around 10 minutes depending on your cabin) and coming prepared can save you a bit of time.
The horseback riding is gorgeous and Hugh clearly knows his stuff when it comes to horses. He looks very comfortable in the saddle and will make sure that you are as well. He takes time to match you with a horse whose temperament matches your own.
Overall at the end of the weekend we did not want to leave, and we will be returning, probably annually to celebrate anniversaries and take in the gorgeous views again.

This is a 4 stars "Car camping" you have access to water and electric, but they call it primitive I am not sure why. Beautiful place, I took my boys there to camp and fish and we had a great time for the delayed harvest trout!! We had the creek for ourselves. The camp grounds need a little bit of love and better access to bathhouses/ restrooms, but they are upfront about it, so no surprises. This is somewhat a place for nature time and great place to fish!! The playground is the creek perfect for kids to disconnect and reconnect with nature. The water is not very deep and you get a nice stretch of sandy bottom where you can sit and chill. Your neighbors are horses and they are very friendly. You also have access to a private pond where you can catch all kinds of different fish, this is a catch and release pond. There is a nice restaurant on the property if you don't feel like cooking. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice camping fishing trip with the kids.
