Small and quaint great services. Very efficient, very clean. Try the restaurant the Conch Flyer for breakfast lunch and dinner! Don't worry about being early for the flight, just head to the Conch Flyer for a drink and snack!

Small Airport, friendly staff. They should warn you that their restaurants are outside of security, so check your bags and eat before security. They do have a bar with conveinence store type food and pastries if you have already passed security.

Nice little airport. You don't spend much time here after you deplane. There are two luggage conveyors, so even if it's your first time here you'll have a 50/50 chance of guessing what belt your luggage will be on. The car rental desks are conveniently located behind the belts. (You'll only need a car in Key West if your traveling off the island.)There is a key drop off when you return your rental car after hours. I've never had any issues. I have rented from two of rental companies. Grabbing a taxi is so simple. Just walk outside, same with the rental car pickup.
Departing is just as simple. You will not need to get to this airport so early. I normally check in approximately one hour before boarding time. There is a restaurant and gift shop before the security checkpoint. I know there is a bar in the waiting area as well, along with another gift shop. Departing is my least favorite thing in Key West!
I have read that this airport will eventually move to Boca Chica. I hope they replicate the airport as is and acquire the longer runway. It would be really nice to be able to take a direct flight into Key West instead of the layover from one of the airports on the mainland.response / report this review -

Very small rural airport. You have to walk out to your plane. They are usually, not aways, pleasant but not very organized and difficult to communicate with. They don't have wheelchairs to take a passenger w limited mobility to the plane. Or if they say that they do they can't then provide one. They question every carry on piece and try to take it from you even when it's international standard regulation size. Since I live in Key West it's my only option. If I had an alternate choice I'd certainly use it.

Flew in on the 2nd and out on the 6th of September 2017 (more on that later) to visit Key West, Florida. Upon arriving at the KWIA you have to walk from your plane to the terminal to retrieve your bags. Please note: there is no smoking or vaping once you get off the plane. Also, do not discard any FOD (Foreign Object Debris) and or trash on the tarmac! Fortunately, we already had tickets to fly out when the news of the impending Hurricane Irma was on its way. With the mandatory evacuation order we did not know what to expect on departure day (Sept 6th) at the KWIA.
With that said, we expected a packed terminal with angry passengers, panicked people and overall chaos. So, we kept our rental car (just in case) and checked in first to even see if our flight was still scheduled or cancelled. Well, we went into the terminal and all was quite, calm and cool. Business as usual. The Delta line had one lady pumping passengers and luggage through with a big smile on her face. We got our boarding passes and before we returned our rental car I asked the bartender if he was going to be open. He explained that they would not, but will put sandwiches, breakfast yogurts and any water they had out downstairs for the passengers. He said it was not much, but thats all they had.
So, we went to Denny's had a Grand Slam, picked up some booze, returned our car, got a shuttle to the airport and went through security. The TSA crew was kind, professional and cracking funny jokes with all the passengers. We went downstairs and sure enough the bartender guy left out sandwiches, yogurts and anything else they had on a table for free. All the water bottles were gone, but I was able to scrounge a cup and make a couple of mixed drinks with fountain waterstraightno ice. The atmosphere was relaxed and the Airport staff kept the public informed about new flights coming in empty to take bumped or standby passengers out via the loud speaker. It was smooth sailing and I want to take this opportunity to THANK all the folks at KWIA who made our trip out pleasant.
Lastly, this was a tri-feca for us and our travels this year. We were in Cozumel when TS Frank hit. When we went back to San Antonio, Texas we were met with Hurricane Harvey who blasted us for three days and then we fly to Key West only to find ourselves right in the middle of an evacuation because of Hurricane Irma. Some close calls, but nothing compared to the disaster(s)that are going on now. God Bless you Key West and thank you for your hospitality.response / report this review -

Guys at the American Airlines backage check didn't know how to do their jobs. I had an expired permit (expired a month ago) and they said it was invalid ID. You can fly with an expired license for up to a year. I came from Miami and passed through tsa checks with no problem.
I told them this and the lady said maybe they didn't notice. Really, the security guys whose job it is to look at your ID didn't notice? They in fact did and mentioned it was expired but that was it. I showed them my bank card to finally let them check my bags through. After the lady lectured me on bringing valid ID, I walked through tsa without the security guy even mentioning it. There was a large group of 20 family members that came to Key West international airport on June 13th. Only 4 of us had been here before and talked the others into coming here pre-cruise. Being from the south let me first say just "bless em". We were yelled at by more than one employee there. From one of the ground crew, to border patrol for pausing on the tarmac to taking up too much room on the sidewalk. Unfriendly attitudes from one of the planes stewards (the other was awesome I wish I knew his name) and the car rental employee who must not have wanted to work today. We were looking for so forward to the trip prayerfully things will be much better for all concerned. ☺

Arrived with my 3 kids on a flight from Orlando. It was as hot as the Sun when we stepped of the plane! Wow!!!!
Very helpful staff. I love small airports. There's usually something far more reflective of the local community than you find in large international airports.response / report this review -

Seems like every time I book a flight out of the keys I need to make sure to give myself a large layover at the next airport. Planes have been delayed because of flight attendants being late to work and I've missed a flight because no one was at the check in desk for me to get my ticket and check my bag then I had to pay to get a new flight.

Airport was fine. But the Cab fees 4 people to the strip and back $100 really and Uber is outlawed. Obviously this is not fair trade. I'm not even sure how it's legal.

New terminal much better than the original one. Flights are generally full. Restaurant outside and inside the terminal. Rental cars available from recognized companies.
