They make things entirely too difficult sometimes. I'm trying to have instate residency approved, they have a copy of my transcript from an Alabama high school on file (and a copy of an Alabama college as well). They tell me they can't use that as evidence. I go by the office and submit a copy of my insurance, a printout of my voter's registration, my license etc. I get an email that says my insurance is expired (it wasn't when I submitted it) and they ask for the new insurance and MORE documentation. If you approve me does this mean the tuition is free? Is that why I've had to submit 5-6 types of documentation?
I find their website never has enough information on it to be helpful, getting a refund processed took them longer then it did to take the money out in the first place. I'm only taking pre req's from them right now but the headache of dealing with them is making me consider not applying for the program I'm interested in, then again I guess you get what you pay for at a "community" college.
So far I have been trying to get into one of there certificate programs since early in August. The first program did not make, no one called to inform me. I showed up and no one was there. The second time the program did not make and I had called them every day for a week and they never answered. They finally called the day before the class was suppose to start and they had told me that they would call me two weeks before the class started to let me know if the class was still going on that never happened. they are horrible at keeping their students inform of cancellations or anything really.
The financial aid office is a joke. No one answers the phone and now they make you leave a message. No matter how many messages you leave no one will return the call. I have had to submit documents multiple times because they say they have not been received. The financial aid staff are condensending and take forever to process your paper work no matter how early you submit it. It's very frustrating to receive your aid well after classes start and they ask you to pay upfront and you will get reimbursed when your information is processed. Well, if I had the money to pay for it all upfront then I wouldn't need aid. Professors are great despite the unprofessional office staff.
To whom it may concern, this school in fact is is the worst place ever! Majority of the people that work in this facility is very rude and act as if there not there to help the students! This school is a waste of time! My brothers and sisters attend a school that sincere about helping students further their education!
Well 90% of the teachers are helpful and informative while the other 10% are rude and care less about their students. The counselors are terrible. Each semester I have to go to three to four different counselors to make sure that paperwork was submitted correctly and the information I received from the previous counselors are correct which usually isn't. Also never trust the people at the front desk for advice they will give you the wrong information. just demand that you speak to a counselor because there is this one lady who is a wannabe councselor. She will "try" to lighten the load of the other counselors by "answering questions" but always fails by giving students incorrect information. Now the actual school is pretty good. The buildings are kept up and bathrooms atleast for females are always clean. The library is so small but the librarians are excellent A++ and will help you with any project and where to find the information you need.
No one in the office is helpful. I got told three different dates to register for classes and all three were incorrect and now registration closes tomorrow and theres no one in the offices.
Let me state the positive before negative. Teachers are beyond helpful and they are amazing at their jobs. Awesome atmosphere HOWEVER the majority of the office staff and advisors are horrible. I am sorry but i have been trying to go to school for two years and they have made it impossible because no one cares to help. Also, dont mind calling in because while i was physically in the admissions office they told people to hold and never followed through to answer the phone calls they just let them sit there for hours on hold and continued to chit chat with the workers they were with. If i had to describe the staff i would say they are rude and selfish and dont care for the fact people are trying to start a future.
The people the financial aid are just flat out rude. I've been in several times and the women working there talked to me like I'm stupid every time. I also am never able to ask all my questions because they're too busy rushing you out.
Never can get anyone on the phone. I've called many times throughout the week and they answered once, transferred me, and then nobody answered on the transferred call.
This college is horrible with getting information processed. I stay 3 hours from Birmingham I drove there because the person in admissions said that they have not received my information. I scan the information to them and I also went there but when I got there I was told I still could not register and pay that same day I had my unofficial transcripts with me. I told them that I have already sent the transcripts out for high school and college and also for high school I had to pay for it. I have sent my information out totaling three times. I was previously as the Shelby/Hoover campus I had to drive to the other campus there and I was able to register and pay the same day. Today they sent me a email still stating they have not receiving my information I'm am so frustrated I should not have to go back up there to hand deliver them information when they should have already received the copies that I have requested to be sent. I'm also attending Wallace in Selma I registered to Jefferson because it was a class I needed and it was offered online. I did not have these problems with Wallace in Selma only at Jefferson they transaction at Wallace went smoothly I didn't have to go to the campus to register they received my information returned my phone call Jefferson didn't not.
I would not recommend this college is horrible.
Now I'm going to fax and rescan the information
then I guess I'm going to have to make another trip this is pitiful.
There is room for improvement but the good outweighs the opportunities for me.
Dr Angers is super knowledgeable and so is Dr.Woods.
Financial aid office personnel was great.
Every establishment should evaluate, coach to betterment and follow up. Whether it's praise and promotions or release and replace.
God bless JSCC.
