Awesome location in the middle of downtown with lots to see and explore. The Inn has a historic vibe and still has lots of touches of the original jail. The innkeeper Kaylin who checked us in is AWESOME! She was super friendly and informative and made our stay even better. She went above and beyond to provide us with cool stories and history about Newport and definitely makes us want to come back. Highly recommended to anyone looking for fun, history, and ghost stories. We look forward to future visits!!
Nice, clean, cozy hotel. Friendly staff and located in the middle of the town. Lots of shops and restaurants within 5 min walking
Just stayed Oct 2017. Excellent location. Close to harbor and dining. Rooms are very tight. No elevator so be prepared to carry bags up to your room. Window A/C's rattle very badly. Next door construction site is very loud. Carpet is nasty and needs to be replaced. Continental breakfast is good but dining room is very cramped. It's a cute old building, but could def use an updating. Staff is very friendly and nice.
My buddy and I came to Newport for a 2 night stay at the JH Inn. We had a 2-bedroom accommodation within one upstairs room, with one small shared bathroom. After reading several glowing 4-5 star reviews, I was surprised at how mediocre this place was when we arrived. Our unit bedrooms were tight, especially the second bedroom. I had to put my suitcase in the hallway of our unit since there was no adequate space in my room. The one bathroom was tiny, with no counter space. Toiletries had to go on top of the toilet, or on a slender glass shelf (already stocked with shampoo, lotion, etc.) or on the narrow border of the sink. Each morning, the noise level of supply trucks to the local businesses in close proximity, were quite loud and the emptying of trash bins was most jarring. No sleeping late here! The complimentary breakfast took place in another very tight spacevery hard to maneuver in when moderately occupied. The breakfast was average, nothing to write home about. I will say however, that the location is great and the staff was very courteous and nice. This place should never be misconstrued as a 4-5 star property. 3 star, at best.
Nice placevery clean. Towels are bigger than a postage stamp & thicker than tissue paper (unlike many places). Only bad was the window A.C. vibrated against the frame horribly. Every time the compressor kicked on, it sounded like a jack hammer going off outside the window.
Beautiful inn in a great central location. Lovely conrinental breakfast, clean and spacious rooms, excellent customer service!
Love the Jailhouse. This is my second time staying here. First, the location can't be beat. Close to Thames, plus all the great restaurants on Broadway. The front desk staff is super friendly. Nice continental breakfast. Lovely rooms with super comfy beds. Definitely want to come back soon!
Very updated and comfortable rooms with so much history. Right in the middle of a great area. Walking distance to the water and shops and all the restaurants. The views are not great so don't come here if you're interested in beautiful scenery outside your window. Also, during our stay there was a lot of construction occuring next door which made for early wake Up's. Also parking was incredibly hard to do since there is no clear indication of where the parking lot is.
Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable rooms
Great location and clean rooms. Super delicious cookies
Fantastic! Big rooms, well priced, all the amenities you want, great staff and service, location. What more could you want!
I personally have never stayed here but felt I should write a review based on all the positive things I've heard about it. It's located in the old police department building in Sierra Madre. That in itself is a beautiful thing. Both the town and the Inn should be on everybody's bucket list!!
