I’m writing this review to save the next person the troubles I’ve had with my Hurricane Boat Lift. Long story short, if you lower the lift without a boat on it the lift will likely break, you’ll have to replace parts at your own expense, and Hurricane Boat Lifts will tell you that’s just how it goes. Seems odd, I know, but that’s why I’m sharing this story. Now for the long version:

I purchased my 20k LB elevator lift from Hurricane over a year ago. I’ve been waiting for the market to calm down before buying a boat, so the lift hasn’t been in use, but I’ve kept up with replacing the zincs, and I’ve been lowering and raising the lift periodically (roughly every month) to keep the barnacles from growing on the beams, as I was instructed to do. I did that again today. The lift went down fine, but when it was coming up it started making loud popping noises and I noticed little pieces of metal flying around. The lift was straining badly, something was clearly wrong. I stopped and called Hurricane, who told me to contact the service person who installed the lift. The service person arrived and identified the problem – apparently the cables were spooling wrong on the way up. Supposedly, because there was no weight on the lift on the way down, the wooden beams provided some resistance when they hit the water and the cables became slack. Then they spooled wrong no the way up and started self-destructing. Now replacement cables and other parts are needed. I figured this can’t possibly be how the lift is designed to operate, so hurricane will provide support, but Hurricane assured me this is in fact how the lift operates and lowering it without a boat does, apparently by design, cause parts oof the lift to self-destruct. As such I must pay out of pocket for the replacement parts and repair. Major surprise to me, so I’m sharing this in order to save you the same surprise. If you ever plan on lowering your lift without a boat no it, I would STRONGLY advise you to shop for a different lift – one that is capable of performing that function.

I already have 2 hurricane boat lifts. I dropped a bolt in the water while I was moving a bunk. I went to them to buy a bolt $75. Minimum purchase. They couldn't be bothered to sell a return customer a bolt. I will never deal with them again.

I've used hurricane twice, super happy with both lifts. Good resale market so I was able to sell old lift years later to help pay for upgraded bigger new lift.

I live on a deep canal that's not easy to install in and have always felt Hurricane supported me with special requests, long cables etc and always have been super responsive.
