It's okay as a cheap place to stay but I don't like that you have to pay to park. The cabinet in our room was broken so we couldn't use the drawers. I couldn't use my bank card to pay even though it can be charged as a credit card. It's definitely not fancy but it was a relatively clean place to lay our heads. Overall I'd probably stay there again because it was a quick ride to what we were there for.

Close the the highway but a little tricky to get to it. Is a little hidden. Big and spacious rooms that are clean. It's a serene environment.

Comfortable bed, hot water, and we didn't have to pay the anticipated $15 to park which was nice. You hear the planes which is to be expected close to the airport. But it wasn't unbearable. All in all a good stay!

This would be a three star review because the hotel is tolerable. However upon arrival we were charged 35 dollars per truck to park at 9:30 pm we were told we had to move our trucks because we had taken 5 spots which we paid for. On their website it says parking is included in rate along with free continental breakfast neither of which is true. This is not a hotel it is a airport parking lot.

Great place to stay if you are flying in or out of Newark airport. Convenient shuttle service runs 24 hour. We were able to return our rental car and get shuttle to the hotel. Saved us time as we had a 330am flight. Very handy and our room was QUIET considering we were so close to the airport.

Horrible customer service. They would see me a lot , and never asked how my stay was going or even a simple good morning. When checking out they don't even thank you for your stay or ask you how it was. The rooms are okay for the price you pay. They have microwaves and a fridge in some rooms so thats nice. I heard people were rude in New Jersey and New York but wow on this trip i witnessed that a million times.

What can be said about Howard Johnson's of Newark, NJ that hasn't already been said. From the overwhelming smell of mothballs and cleaner to the seemingly convincing smashed cockroach carcass on the wall above our 16 inch television. It's safe to imagine this place being used as the setting for American Horror Story: Hotel.

But let's take a step back from the simple aesthetics and really analyze the hospitality of this business of hospitality... After confirming that everything was paid for during a weekend stay, we discover that much like any sneaky and sly swindler, Howard Johnson's is right up there with the very best. Be prepared to pay for your vehicle each night of your stay at the hotel. Be warned, they will elude that paying the $15 parking fee once will give you free access but it's only for one day. You will soon discover that they will lock your room and hold all your personal belongings hostage until you pay in advance for the rest of your vehicle's stay.

Now as someone who is in the field of tourism and works closely with some very reputable businesses in the hospitality market I can say for certain that Howard Johnson's of Newark, NJ is extremely displeasing. I call upon Gov. Christie to wipe away this skid mark for its lack of efficiency, hospitality, and overall convenience.

I personally feel 2 stars is extremely generous. But let's classify them more fittingly. I give them a whopping half a star. Reason being? They have an intricate waterfall in their lobby and I was intrigued.

Finally I would just like to add, please don't just take my word for it, take into consideration all of the other reviews.

The worst experience i had. Was a last minute decision to go on this trip because of a death in the family, that was the only affordable hotel we could of found, we booked without looking at the reviews. First we asked for none smoking, we walked in the room they gave us and it was so stink of smoke, went and talk to the front desk and the changed the room, going to take a shower and the tub started to fill up, it was blocked up, the bed was uncomfortable, the pillows was so worn out. The biggest is the parking, we came in at one time and the ticket read an earlier time, so they can charge you more for parking, twice when my son visited we went up to the front desk and talked to them, the fixed the ticket but not the machine. So whenever you go into those places make sure you check the time on your ticket and the time on your watch. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE.

This location missed the 5-Star mark for one reason: $15.00 a day to park! I've stayed at this location MANY times over the years, never being charged to park. Love the location and amenities; however, paying that much to park ON TOP OF the price for the room caused them to lose a customer AND earn a 4-Star review.

The hotel is dated but big and functional. The check in was easy, service was good and helpful. Our room was a little dirty but the bed was comfy and good for one night. The shower was powerful and warm. The room came with a fridge and a microwave. The hotel is directly under the flight path but I slept soundly so I think the hotel has good noise insulation. We had a free shuttle to the airport in at 4:30 in the morning and there was plenty of staff around to help us. For the price it was perfect for what we needed.

I picked the hotel specifically for the shuttle. I waited an hour and 20 minutes for the airport shuttle to arrive! Throughout this hour I called the hotel every 15 minutes for an update, constantly describing to them where I was waiting. I guess they got tired of me called because then they began to transfer my calls over and over until someone hung up on me or they would just not answer the calls period! Then I finally get on the shuttle and it smells disgusting and super strong, kinda like period blood or something. Once I got to the room (literally a less this five minute ride to hotel) the cleanliness of the room is what you expect of a two star hotel. No bugs but peeling paint on walls, stains on the comforter, paint peeling in the tub, dusty, all these things and a few more but okay enough for a night. Overall, if you read this entire review it means your really contemplating it, DONT DO IT! Spend the 15/20 more and go for a real hotel

When people say New Jersey is an ugly state it is because they stay at hotels like this. Although the hotel seemed clean, well maintained and secure it is set in an industrial wasteland. This is the type of hotel where you'd expect drug deals to occur in the parking lot and prostitution in the rooms. It is incredibly convenient for people landing in Newark as it is located so close to the airport. Despite this, I would not stay here unless there were no apternatives. We met family and ate in the lobby restaurant. The food was acceptable if not depressing. The fact that there is a restaurant is appreciated. Overall, a fine hotel for 1 night.
