This is by far one of the worst businesses in Anderson. My husband and I rescue and have 9 dogs of our own that were, at one point, all under the care of this facility. After searching for about 6 months for a new vet, we decided on House Vets about 2 years ago because they offer a 'free shots for life program' in which you pay $150 to enroll per dog. This sounded like a great deal, and at the time, the person who spoke to us was so friendly. Little did we know, the vibe would take a drastic turn once they got our money.

What started my ill feelings happened about 6 months ago when I took one of our rescues in for his annual shots. Upon walking in, he started to go nuts because there was a cat on the counter. Our dog is terrified of cats. After explaining this to the front desk lady, her response was "they live here, you don't.'' I was appalled. So i sat quietly almost in tears because my dog was shaking so bad, and waited for our appointment.

The next time I had an issue, I took my rescued pitbull in to enroll him in the shots for life program. I called ahead letting them know he was formally abused, and while we were working on certain things, he was very timid around new people. As soon as I walked in, they had a dog running loose around their office. Again, this is a rescue dog who was suffering from aggression issues. So I tell the lady at the front desk, and her response to me was 'I really don't have time to put him away.' So I took my dog out to my car and asked them to just call me when they were ready to put me in a room and I would come in. They didn't. And instead took a gentleman in front of me. When I went in to ask them they told me they had just assumed I had left. So they 'accommodated' me with an eye roll. I was furious.

I didn't want to give up on a 'local' business so of course, I went back. This time, to get my dog's annal glands drained. They charged me $60. I thought that was normal, so i paid it, and went on home. On the way home, my dog's annal glands projectile squirted on my entire back seat. I was mortified. So I called them immediately and they told me that sometimes that happens and just to hold a warm cloth up to his bottom and it should subside, but if not, then bring him back in and they would drain them again at no cost. A few days went by and they were only getting worst, so my husband took him back in and they charged us another $60 after admitting they didn't drain them properly the first time.

This past week, we were informed that one of our dog's enrollment in the shots for life program had expired. We were never notified. Most vets send cards when it's time for shots. They DO NOT! After explaining that we wouldn't return with any of our 9 dogs and we would be going to a different vet they expressed no concern and said 'okay, thanks for letting us know!'

We've since started going to a wonderful vet! They don't make us muzzle our pitbulls or require us to get a prescription for sedation like House Vets does. And, we've saved so much money. We didn't realize how high priced HVHP was until we moved vets.

Do your research! But just to save you some time, money, and frustrations, do NOT take any animals here. The front desk is rude and the vet techs are snippy. If I could rate them 0 stars, I would.

Very expensive, the only thing affordable is their free shots for life program. The vets and vet techs are really nice, but the vets spend less than 5 minutes with the dog. They are not upfront with their costs, and often times I have been quoted a price over the phone, and then when I receive the bill the price is way higher. When I ask the Vet Techs about this they would say "oh yeah that has happened before with the front desk, they don't always know the correct prices", or "they're a new employee". Then of course they do not honor the price quote.

Another time, my dog pooped in the lobby, and I went to clean it up, but one of the techs said that she would take care of it, which I thought was nice. However, they tried to run a stool sample without asking my permission, which is an additional $40. I'm glad that I caught them before they ran those tests, or they would have charged me for something I did not agree to doing. That same dog they took to the back to give him shots, and decided to trim his nails, which again I thought was nice, until I saw that they charged me somewhere between $15-$25 to trim his nails. There are many Pet places that would have done this for $5. Again, I did not agree to this, but was charged.

They nickel and dime the customer. I took one of my dogs to get his anal glands drained, and not even 3 days later they needed drained again, as they were not done properly. I made an appointment, and they said it would be a followup and I shouldn't have to pay anything (again the front desk apparently misquoting me). At the follow-up, the vet saw my dog for about 30 seconds and drained the anal glands again. I then was given a bill for $60 (mind you I already paid this 3 days ago). To be charged that again when it was their mistake was atrocious. Then they recommended to have his anal glands removed since they were so bad, which would cost $700 to do. In reality, his anal glands weren't bad, they just weren't drained properly, but instead of admitting that they tried to get me to do an expensive procedure. It's been almost 6 months since then, and we haven't had any issues with his anal glands.

If that wasn't bad enough, I have multiple dogs that I only continue to take to House Vets, because of their Free Shots for Life program. I signed my dogs up for it a few years ago. I took 2 of my dogs for their yearly check up this week, and upon leaving I tried to make an appointment for my other dog who is on the program. I was then informed that it had been over a year (but not a full calendar year) since that dog's last appointment, and therefore they automatically took him out of the free shots for life program. This was the first that I heard or knew about this, so I questioned the staff, who were friendly, and said it was on the initial contract that I received years ago that the dog had to be seen again within 13 months, not just once in a calendar year like I thought.

House Vets told me that they would ask their business manager to make an exception, but of course he decided not to, instead he said he would let me re-enroll for $75 instead of $150, gee thanks. I told them that is fine, but I am going to take my dog to another vet because of how expensive they are. Instead of caring, or trying to keep my business they were just like okay bye. I had 6 dogs going to House Vets, but now after this I am only taking 2 of my dogs there, simply because of the Free Shots for Life Program. If it wasn't for that, I would take them all to our other Vet.

I highly recommend looking elsewhere before taking your dog here. Take it from a dog owner of 8, there are much better ones out there. If you do go there, get everything quoted out in writing prior to letting them do anything with your dog.

One of the worst vets I have EVER come in contact with. They do not care about your pets and the front desk and is EXTREMELY rude. This business does not even deserve a star after the experience I have had with them. I have brought my two dogs to House Vets for House Pets and been a faithful customer for almost 9 years and could not be more disappointed with their service.
After my dog was kenneled at House Vets for House Pets during one of my vacations, she came home with her ear the size of a ballon because a blood vessel had popped, however everyone in the office failed to acknowledge it. To this day her poor ear looks like a crumbled leaf.
Another instance House Vets for House Pets had given my dog a bath and the shampoo they used made her skin had such a terrible reaction that her neck swelled up so bad that her collar was choking her. Yet, after this being their mistake we had to pay for antibiotics and the medication to make my dog better.
On another occasion my dogs were in fit club and when we had brought them home one of the dogs was bleeding on her stomach, as well as other parts of her body, and had scratches all over. The vet said another dog attacked her and completely blew the situation off like it was not a big deal.
My dogs were just recently taken to get baths. My dog had came home with a chunk of her hair missing on her bottom and puss coming out of a scab because her skin had such a terrible reaction to the soap they used during her bath. Not only was the reaction of the soap near her bottom, but it was all over her body, including her ears filled of puss scabs. The person giving her a bath does not speak English and the office could not even tell us what soap was used on my dog during her bath. They said there ‘might’ have been perfume sprayed on her. Question: why is there perfume being sprayed on a dog after a bath? So once again we are paying for medication and antibiotics for THEIR mistake. Currently, my dog is at home not wanting to leave her cage or even stand up. It breaks my heart to see her in so much pain because of such careless people.
This vet offers fit club, but it is expensive and a waste of money. From my understanding they only let the dogs out twice a day and crate them the rest. Fit club is supposed to be time the dogs are able to run freely and play, but I have walked in on several occasions and seen my dog is in a cage. Not only that, the small outdoor area they have for the dogs is full of feces. I am very disappointed because I can cage my dog at home. The reason I take them to fit club is so they get to run around more, in which is one of the the many services I have paid for and failed to receive.
After confronting my concerns with House Vets for House Pets they said to me if I do not like their service that I have other options. This vet is very expensive to walk in the front door and feel disrespected and to feel my money and pets are not valued. They do not deserve my service nor yours.
I feel it is important to share my experience with you because we all love our animals and want the best care for them. I guarantee you are not going to receive that at this vet. I have been a faithful customer of House Vets for House Pets for nearly nine years and have slowly watched this business’s quality deteriorate at my own expense and my furry friends. Don’t waste your time or your money because I surely do not want you to share these experiences with me.

Vets are great, but you'll pay for them. The care is terrific, and that's the important thing, but not if you can't afford it. All the prices are sky high. If you can get any of the extras they try to sell you somewhere else, do it. It will help.

Dr. Cat and staff are some of the best around. They are very attentive to detail and make sure you and your fur family members feel right at home. There are never too many questions. I always tell people that Dr. Cat is the best in the city. I stand by that.
