Our 4 year old son loved the train ride, so for this I'm grateful. But, we will not be going back. Be prepared for a 45 min ride through the bottoms, looking at the back of old run down mill houses on the right side. The left side, you might see a field or 2. Thinking it has to get better? No. We turn around and go back the same way? Omg, so disappointed! The Santa Clause also came through the train, he loved this too! But, so glad he didn't see everytime they opened the door where he was, that Santa had took off his hair and beard? Yes. A bald man in a Santa suit!
We froze to death. They tried to keep the pot belly stove going. But, all the 3 men accomplished was filling the cart with coal dust and smoke. Not to mention arguing about who done what wrong! So, I think if better ran, and a different track. It might be worth the money and the drive! Hope this helps!

The conductors are amazing. John E is there every year and makes me smile. The price is a little high but the atmosphere is great.

The people are very friendly but the ride itself is a waste of time. We were on the Santa Train which was lightly decorated on inside of train but there was absolutely nothing on this ride worth seeing. There are some nice things to do around Hocking Hills but I would not do this ride again. Waste of time and money.

Such a cool experience. We took our 2 year old and had a wonderful time! The train station and train itself was neat to look at and experience.

This ride is definitely a waste of time and money. While I always look for the upside of a situation, this ride was a complete write off. The station is quaint enough. I am a wheelchair user. Boarding the train was fairly smooth and I got situated easily. I was full of anticipation for perhaps a narrated tour of historic interest and natural beauty (this was after all Hocking Hill). Once we left the station it was a huge let down. The train went down tracks and the only views were of abandoned carriages, corn fields, dilapidated homes, a lumber yard and some kind of mining place. Then we turned back to go to the "village." We passed the old station again and headed on an additional two miles (again no foliage or anything pretty to see on the way). Once at the village I was told that wheelchair users could not descend!! There was NO disclosure of this at the start of the trip. So I sat on board for 30-40 minutes while everyone else got off to use the rest rooms and grab some snacks. My friend who saw the "village" said it was just a run down set of stores, nothing well maintained or historic about it. A waste. We turned back then after wasting 2 precious hours. On our way out of the park we drove by the same sights we saw from the train! Honestly, I have no personal grudge against anything or anyone here but if you value your time and you're on a tight schedule, give this one a MISS.

Went on the fall foliage tour-- although the trees aren't cooperating this year we had a wonderful, relaxing time. We could hear the narration perfectly, the windows were large and clean and the conductor very nice and helpful. Definitely recommend it!

The guy that runs train blows the horn like a 3 year old and the train is very dirty. This ride is a joke save your money for something else..

JUST SAY NO!! Too long and views were not worth the money! I wish I had read more reviews before I booked this tour. Our kids had never been on a train ride so we thought this would be a fun family event to ride a train and see some scenic views, it didn't turn out that way.

The cabin cars that had AC did not feel that cool so we decided to sit outside in a covered open air train car, we had a good breeze but it was still fairly hot and the train was LOUD. But the worst part is the views, or lack there of! We saw roads, cars, houses, a river and some hills, but no views like what you see at the state park. And you don't go in a circle, the train goes down the track and then reverses and goes back so you see the same thing you just saw.

Then you actually pass the Depot and continue on the other way. They stop for a half hour so you can see some old cabins and buildings where they sell overpriced ice cream and water. Our 2 hour train tour was actually 2 1/2 and it really should only be an hour for how crappy it is. Just stick to the actual Hocking Hills state park in Logan and steer clear of Nelsonville, you'll be much happier!

Great railway with a reasonable price! Santa Train and other special events make it worth the trip to Nelsonville. Rocky Boots is next door for outdoor gear and food. The ride is boarded and done in about a couple hours and goes through the local countryside for some nice natural and small town scenery.

Took the New Years train. Wine n cheese were fabulous, nice deserts were also served. Large fireworks displayed at end of ride was wonderful! Train sold out quickly, will be taking the trip again for next year!

If you've never ridden on a genuine passenger rail car, this is a nice way to experience it - in a clickety-clack relaxed atmosphere. If you feel the need for constant entertainment, this may not be the ride for you. I last rode a real passenger train in elementary school as part of a field trip where we rode from Marion to Lima.

We rode the Santa train and saw the Jolly Elf twice. The ride is out-and-back. The tracks likely won't support much over the 20 mph we experienced on our return trip. The trip out was a sedate 10 mph and let us see some local squalor and beauty. My five-year-old was excited at the prospect of riding a train but he quickly got bored at looking out the window. He was tongue-tied in Santa's presence just like every other time.

The website says to get there early, which we did. We arrived 45 minutes early and still had to find a spot on one of the older cars, which was quite dirty. The car was heated and my kids were excited to see Santa. The website described the ride as scenic. Definitely not what we expected. You ride along the main road for most of the trip and then the train stops and you go back exactly the way you came. Not exactly what I would describe as scenic with the view we had. Very disappointed in the experience, too much money for what we got.
