This is one of those instances where you get what you pay for.
When we arrived, there was a mix up on which room we were getting. Not a big deal it happens; however, we called the number on google which is the owner, who seemed inconvenienced and told us to call the number on the door. Got that sorted out.
There is no need for a key because it has a key code and it's 00 followed by the room number. The key they give you doesn't lock the deadbolt so anyone who knows about the codes, can access your room. NO SECURITY, unless you're inside.
Little things like the bed didn't have a fitted sheet, just two flat ones. The toilet had mold in it. The sink stopper broke. You get fresh towels, but you need to empty your own trash if it gets full. Bugs and spider webs in corners.
But what really got me is the fact that the shower had no cold water, so it was scalding. Informed them on the first day, they "fixed" it. Soon after that we had water coming into our room from the wall by the shower and it seemed to be worse after we showered. Told the manager, who gave us blankets to put down, which didn't help. On the last full day of us being there, got around to shop vacuuming up the water, which didn't make much of a difference. So for 3 days we had to walk across soggy cold carpet to get to the bathroom. They couldn't move us because all the rooms were full up and didn't offer to comp anything. Instead, he was fishing for a tip since he went above and beyond.

Not so good. We were there in May 2015 for IU graduation. Room smelled like smoke even though we requested two no smoking rooms. There was no toilet paper in our room, someone else's soap was in the shower and a dirty wash cloth. The TV requires two remotes but the room only had one. While searching the room for the other remote we found trash under the bed, a Cheeto and a chicken bone. There was a cell phone number to text if there was a problem. I sent a text asking for toilet paper, to have the room cleaned and for the other remote. We left for the day and when we got back that night nothing had been done, not even the toilet paper. I had to actually go to CVS and buy my own!! The next day I saw a guy who looked like he worked there. I asked him and yes, he said he was the manager. I explained my problems, rather nicely if I must say so myself considering how mad I was. He looked at his phone said he didn't get the text, and then said well people steal the remotes and he would try to find us one. He asked if we still needed TP, I said no I just told you I had to go buy it. He said ok and that was the end of it. He said he would talk to the people he hired to clean and ask them to do a better job next time. NEXT TIME?!? I wanted to shout, don't worry about that we will never stay again. We have another graduation in 2016, and we have already booked elsewhere. Never again at the Bates motel.

Best Price close to IU campus! On St. Rd. 46.
Google map is incorrect. Hickory Shades is east of map location at intersection of St. Rd. 46 and T.C. Steele Rd. Very handy to both Nashville and Bloomington, Indiana. Small affordable rooms by the night or month. Kitchen area, laundry room, free wi fi. Close to the T.C. Steele state historic site. Room reeked of mold; traced the source to the bathroom. My wife had an asthma attack in our room because of this. Not even Febreeze could exorcise the room of its nasty funk for more than a fraction of a day.
Close proximity to the TC Steele site and Mr. Hibachi in Bloomington was a plus.response / report this review
