I only put one just so I could comment. This place is horrible. A family member of mine went there. The staff isn't equip do handle these patients. There was a male that actually went into my family members room and got in her bed literally self pleasured himself.Thank goodness she was not in the bed. There is more. They are not qualified.I would not recommend that place to my worest enemy.
This is one the second mental facility I was at. The first was havenwyck and compared to that place this must as well have been a 5 Star hotel. Some of the nurses definitely need to work on their attitudes, but it isn’t the worst place. When I was cold I was allowed extra blankets. I got to shower in my own room, I even went outside one time. The doctors could use some work. One of the nurses I wish I remembered her name, was one of the most helpful people I have EVER met in a mental facility. I will never forget her kindness. The female doctor was better than the male. Because I was so drugged up from HavenWyck they allowed me an earlier bedtime, and she even allowed me to lower the incredibly high dosage that I was on when she understood that it wasn’t needed. The food however was AWFUL it was a joke to call it “food” it was in a soggy styrofoam container and you weren’t allowed to choose where you sat to eat. Unlike Havenwyck I have no nightmares of being there, when I asked the times and the dates they answered, we had rec time and we got to do some pretty cool crafts if I’m being honest. One more mini complaint that I have is the fact they woke you up at 3 am to check your vitals. Woke everyone in the room up. However, there are a LOT more positives than negatives from this facility. I was very satisfied now looking back now that I’m not a zombie. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it but I wouldn’t diss it either.
Misdiagnosed, improperly treated, unprofessionale environment. They threw away sentimental notes from my boyfriend that had passed away days before I was admitted there. Some nurses are accusatory and demeaning, they are understaffed and cause more harm than good to their patients mental health. They put everyone on the same medication like experimental lab rats. I had nightmares for months after staying for 2 weeks. One nurse was very helpful, and the patients were unforgettable, incredible girls, but overall I absolutely do not recommend you go here.
I would give this place zero stars if I could. My step son was admitted here recently for a month. He's developmentally disabled and also has aggressive violent outbursts. He was admitted here in hopes they'd find the right meds for him. Not only did they send him home in worse shape than when he was admitted, but his stay there was far from acceptable. Zero communication between family and staff. some of the staff have very bad attitudes. Doctor is very arrogant. My step son was very poorly managed and I plan to spread the word around town!
LONG but worth a read for parents!! THIS PLACE IS AWFUL!! PARENTS BEWARE!! Was told it was a great drug treatment center for my teenage son and the hospital transferred him there. He was going crazy in there with a kid trying to eat towels, kids being hit with tranquilizers because they were running and screaming and hitting people, and not enough staff to control them, and begged me to get him out! Talked to the case worker and told her it wasn't helping him and that I wanted to take him out. She got VERY rude and threatened that if I tried taking him out without the doctors permission they would call CPS. I laughed and said "I put him in, and I will find another facility". The next day, I spoke to the doctor who said he felt he could be discharged and do an intensive outpatient treatment, and that's exactly what the discharge papers he gave me said. We picked my son up at 8:30 p.m and by 9:15 p.m I got a phone call from CPS that said she would have to come out the next morning, and I had to keep my other kids home for her to interview as well. The case worker called a complaint in with CPS that said "they took our suicidal son out of our care to a house full of guns". Need less to say, as soon as CPS came we showed her the discharge papers, we showed her our two guns in their locked fingerprint reading case, and at the end of the visit she was angry! She actually told my husband and I that if we would ever consider fostering, to please give her a call!
My son (13) received the proper care he finally deserved. He has been hospitalized at other facilities, but seemed worse after. Thankfully I followed the recommendation from our emergency dept. to go to Harbour Oaks. Only downfall, it is a little far but again worth it.
Normally I do not post "google" reviews unless of course they are negative, but this one is different. My child was on the autism unit for almost two months, and I must say that the staff is amazing. Thank you Harbor Oaks.
5 stars for real. Honesty, we know what he's got because we're the ones that gave it to him
Horrible intake process. Horrible communication PERIOD. Look out for Dorthy! This place is a nightmare! They have lost sight of their purpose! and many of the staff is under qualified!
No issues at all with the staff--they were all helpful and friendly. It is the so-called "doctors" running the place that are to be avoided. Their "cure" for a family member was to pump them full of anti-psychotics for a few weeks, then discharge. Family member got home, could not get herself out of bed, would not eat, and ended up having to be hospitalized to be detoxed from the med they gave her. Docs were also extremely rude and difficult to talk to, until court intervened. Doping someone into submission is unprofessional. Surprised they haven't been sued for malpractice yet. Avoid this place.
Nearly committed suicide do to the poison they gave me. I don't know who the hell these people think they are but they better get themselves together before somebody dies. I never felt like committing suicide before and only checked myself in because I was feeling strange thoughts. It turned out it was just some food I ate I felt fine in about a day after being there. After I stopped and found this out I told them about my experience and told them I was fine now and ready to go home. They told me I couldn't leave until further evaluation. I understood this so I was patient with them. They tried to prescribe me a cocktail of pills (over nine a day). I told them I do not like taking pills. I tried to tell them I am feeling better and do not believe I am mentally ill. They said I could not leave here until I worked with them. "we can do this the easy way or the hard way" they said. I just wanted to leave so I decided to try one of there drugs in injection form because the doctors it said would help me feel better than I already did and it was not a pill. This drug just happened to be invega, an extremely psychotropic drug that last over three months because it stays in your blood. They assured me I would be fine. Not even an hour after the shot my whole body shut down. Every muscle was soar. I started to think strange thoughts i never thought before. I couldn't get out of bed. i was constipated one day and had diarrhea the next. throwing up and becoming extremely ill. I was there nearly 30 days before they let me go trying to fix what they had screwed up in my body. After they let me go I was under severe depression for over a year because a tumor started to develop in my brain which was proven to be directly correlated with the drug invega that they gave to me . I HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPRESSED LIKE THAT MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! I Luckily i have gotten over this for the most part but still to this day can not fathom that they could let something like that happen. The only reason I haven't sued them yet is because I don't feel right suing a hospital. Even though t I think more people are suffering from there stupid doctors malpractice, they are a big facility that help cure people of illness besides mental health. As for the mental Health facility though, they should be fired or thrown in jail. DO NOT SEND PEOPLE HERE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING YOU ARE AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE IN DANGER!!!
My daughter was admitted here a month ago with thoughts of suicide so severe that she asked for help. We had no idea about any of her depression and how terrible it had been for her. Harbor Oaks was really a great start to my daughter getting the help she needed. I was able to speak to my daughter whenever I wanted to and I called the staff every day even at 4:30 in the morning. Everyone that I talked to on the phone or in person was extremely nice and compassionate. I asked my daughter daily if the staff treated her well and with dignity. She always said YES. She had a couple staff members that she was really fond of. My daughter's case worker was a nice young man. He helped provide an ongoing extensive outpatient treatment plan for my daughter. My daughter has a long road ahead, but she is so much better than she was before. I had never seen the inside of a mental hospital before. It is not some place you want to send your child.. However, my child was SAFE there. Harbor Oaks kept her safe. I could not have done that at home in her mental state. My daughter stayed for 8 days. I hope she will never have to be institutionalized again but if she is, I would trust Harbor Oaks with her care.
