Friendly staff, a large selection in each section/ genre. It took some time getting used to the new layout. I don’t know if we went to the children’s section (front of store), or if it was just the space for store events. This store doesn’t have the same child- friendly children’s section with table and chairsunless we missed it on our first visit?
We would visit again, and I’ll update the review once we do.
Great people and the selections (book, dvd, comics, music) varies from week to week.
Not the best Half Price Books I've been to out of the dozen or so I've been to. The selection was okay. They lose a star for having a locked bathroom you have to ask for a key for which I've never seen in another one of their stores? As other people have noticed this is not an "outlet" either despite the name.
Love half price books and I find a lot more newer releases at this location. They are dog friendly, too!
Lots of books at good prices. While online book merchants are convenient I really enjoy going to HPB to browse their great selection and their prices are about the same (if not better) than the online sites.
They have great books, movies, LPs, and CDs about and/ or featuring the greatest dancer ever: John Travolta! The HPB staff is wonderfulSteve, Patrick, Kristen all R phenomenal. Damn, they're smooth!
I love Half Price books and was excited to have them open a store in Rockford. Boy was I disappointed when I found out it was an "Outlet" store. I was more disappointed when I visited. Rockford could really use a great used book/CD/DVD store but instead Half Price books sees Rockford as an uneducated slum where it can only get rid of the trash it can't sell at its "real" stores. Shame on you Half Price Books!
(two years later)
The Half Price books outlet is now gone and they have moved a block or so away next to Gufftason's furniture. They are not quite a Full Half Price Books but they are also not an outlet anymore. They have a much larger selection but they don't purchase books CDs or DVDs and blame the city of Rockford for not being able to purchase materials. This makes the "full" store much weaker than other stores in the chain..Everything in stock has to come from a different store. That means you still get leftovers and no fresh merchandise from local customers. There are other used CD and DVD stores in Rockford so their excuse for not buying materials is weak at best. Shame on half-price books for not putting a full store in Rockford
Place is a rip off compared to the old location. Granted they have cool stuff like vinyls but all there dvds and books used to be reasonable now they are overpriced in my opinion. Disc replay used to be my second choice now it is my go to.
big place tons of different books dvds video games you could spend hours looking at what ever you like plus price are very good even amazing
Cheap books but no concealed carry permitted so I sat in the car their loss since I'm the one who buys books
I usually wait for their "Everything's a Dollar Sale"(a couple of times a year), to stock up on DVDs, CDs, and reading material. Only complaint; while material is organized by subject, it is not alphabetically organized. If you are looking for a specific author/artist/title, plan on spending some time there.
This is a great book store. I always find what I'm looking for and for an unbeatable price. Books are always in great condition
Oh my ,the DEALS. I love this place. And being right by where I work,I can always stop by. Only 4 stars, because I think they should have some more bookshelves. Good be because of budget, but it would definitely make things look a bit more organized.
