We visited the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad and rode the Polar Express on Christmas Eve. We had an incredible time singing Christmas carols, eating chocolate chip cookies and drinking "Hot, hot, hotHot Chocolate!" The Polar Express book was read while we rode to the North Pole, and Santa came on board and gifted us with an "I Believe" silver bell. The town of Bryson City was very nice to walk through and explore. Friendly people everywhere!

Just got off the Polar Express ride. This is a must. We did the first class ride and it was and is worth every penny. Yes it is a little pricey. But you will have the time of your life if you have little ones. All of the staff are over the top friendly. The young lady that danced and sang was great. She was able to get my daughter to get up and dance and that is no easy task. The train was very clean and well maintained. It brought back a lot of memories from when I was a small child riding a train from Florida to Nebraska. The whole ride was done right. We will be returning for many more trips.

We were there for the polar express ride and absolutely loved it. It was our anniversary and wanted to do something special and different. The whole experience was wonderful from the staff to the light display at the north pole. Santa coming on the train and giving out the bells was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend it, it's something for the young and old.

This is a great place for family fun. We did the Polar Express. Bryson City is a cool little mountain town. They have some great eats and good micro brewery's. The train museum is really cool and the staff there are extremely helpful and nice. They even have a scavenger hunt for the kids.

I love a scenic railroad ride. Unfortunately most of the scenery was on one side of the train. The side We weren't on. They do have you switch sides, but by the time we were returning, the sun was not optimal for photography. Bryson City is a very nice little town.

We took our 2-year-old on the Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express and we all had so much fun! The train ride was only part of it; The pumpkin patch had a ton of fun things to do — including trick-or-treating! — and they had a food cart there so we didn't have to wait at the concession area at the depot. It was a rainy day when we went but still tons of fun!

Great for couples and even better for families. The "Polar express" experience is the greatest. The train is fully decked out to match the movie version and the live action skits are wonderful. Fans of the movie will really love it. There is also a "Thomas the train" run during the year and other special events for everyone. It is my opinion that you should not miss the "Great Smoky Mountain Railroad" when you visit western NC. The only negative about this place is very little parking is available. However, if you have to park and walk a little ways its still worth the extra effort.

We did the fall foliage ride. Where we boarded was incredibly sketchy, there was no where to stand except in between the train track and a run down privacy fence. Not accommodating at all for elderly, disabled, or babies. the train cars were dirty inside and out. No organization in boarding. The view on the ride was very lackluster. A ton of kudzu and run-down houses/trailers. Way over priced. Would not recommend. We were very disappointed.

The Wizard of Oz train ride was amazing! I had so much fun. All of the cast members were so friendly and never minded taking pictures with us when we asked (we are, by no means, children and didn't have any with us). They were all so kind to all of the kids and you could see that they genuinely enjoyed their job and interacting with the public. They made the story work well with the train ride. It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to take the train again.

I was not expecting much and did not even want to go on this train. However after getting dragged on by other people who bought the tickets. I had a great time. The food was great, the staff was ultra friendly and fun. I think his name was Steve, he mentioned he was on auction hunter TV show if that helps. If you can get him you are in luck. He is very knowledgeable about the area and quite funny. We are already planning to come back net year.

We took the railroad during July 4th weekend 2017 and had a great time. Paying extra for the air-conditioned car was worth it on such a hot, muggy day. The ride was long enough to be enjoyable, but not so long as to be boring. The cars and seats are well maintained, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended to do at least once. Not much likely changes from trip to trip, so I don't know that we'd pay to do it again.

You definitely don't get what you pay for. The 4 hour train ride is actually a little over an hour one way, then a 1.5 hour layover, then a little over an hour back. I didn't see that posted anywhere and wasn't told about the layover when buying the tickets. The view during the ride is surprisingly bad. You do have a view of the river through some overgrowth, but most of the trip is only trailer parks and farms. Very little mountain views. Driving any road provides a far better view (and is totally freetry driving 64 for much better views). Absolutely no narration was provided during the trip. Overall very disappointing for how expensive the tickets are. Wouldn't recommend.

This attraction is very overpriced for the experience. We booked our tickets over the phone. The agent told us it would be a 2 hour 20 minute drive from Pigeon Forge, TN. It only took us 1 1/2 hours so we left the cabin very early. You would think that the parking would be free with the amount they charge for a ticket, but you also have to pay a $5 parking ticket. The views were horrible. Very few scenic views. We were told that we would have mountain views, but there were very little mountain views. Mostly run down trailers and vegetation. We also asked which side of the train would have the better views and were told both sides had equal views. Not so, the side facing the station when you leave has the better views. Nobody narrated for you and the couple of times there was a narration over the speaker, you couldn't understand anything that was said. It was a very long, disappointing day for the $230 we spent for the four of us to go. Something we were very excited about doing, but turned out to be our most expensive and most disappointing event in the Smoky Mountains.

I attempted to book online and somehow ended up with tickets for the wrong day. My family was not able to stay an extra day to go on the SMR. I called and emailed for two days unable to contact anyone. I finally made contact with someone today who refused to refund us our money. Beware of their outdated website that makes booking errors! And not being able to contact anyone for days! They will not refund you your money. So sad a family attraction like this takes honest people's money and refuses to refund after their website made an error. Will NOT be coming back again. I read many reviews about this attraction being boring and a waste of time. I guess I should have chose something else to waste my money on.
