Fun day Kayaking around Grand Island. The people running the ferry and gift shop are so nice and friendly. The man running the ferry (sorry forget his name) came out to check on us because the wind had started to kick-up. It is great to see someone that is really concerned about people and willing to go that extra mile. It was a excellent fall day (Oct 2) out on Lake Superior, almost 70. The paddle out to the light house for lunch, and sitting on the beach enjoying the sun as great. If you are looking for something more then just a guided tour, highly recommend the folks over at the Grand Island ferry service. One word of caution, these are sea kayaks, so plan on getting wet, so dress appropriately.

The couple that run this place are super nice. They only run the ferry at certain times, 9am, 12pm, and 3:30pm.

Neat cruises to an amazing island. Ferry rides were cheap. On the Island their is a bus tour or you can hike or bike. The bus doesn't take you to the North part of the island where the clifs can be 200 feet. If you take a bike or hike it is a 8 mile trip.

Grand Island is a great campsite location. I have to call out the Grand Island Ferry Service Team (GIFS) in particular. They are nothing short of incredible. Here's why.
Mid weekend, we took a day to bike around the whole island. Towards the end of the route, one of our group lost the front tire on his bike (NOT a rental bike, his own bike, the rentals worked great) and took a bad spill that required a trip to the hospital for a dozen or so stitches. These things happen, please wear a helmet. We contacted GIFS who in turn contacted emergency services and graciously held the last ferry to make sure we had time to walk back, get across the water, and drive to the hospital before they closed for the day. The GIFS then took the time to visit the hospital to make sure everything was okay. Once our fallen comrade was stitched up and back on his feet, the GIFS offered us a ride free ride to get us back to the campsite before night fall. Their landing office was closed, so the ride took the form of a private ferry from the hospital and straight back to our campsite to save us having to walk 2 miles the dark. Wyatt you are the man! Additionally, the GIFS took the forlorn bicycle into their care and brought it back to working/ride-able condition. The bike was ready and waiting for us at the landing station upon our departure from Grand Island. They never once asked for anything in return for their assistance. We are so grateful for the above and beyond, flat out exceptional service and care we received from the Grand Island Ferry Team. It could have been a much more difficult weekend had they not been there to help out.

Didn't get to catch the ferry due to us not realizing their departures times had changed drastically after the Labor Day holiday. Patrick was extremely helpful with his knowledge of the area & attractions he'd recommend seeing. Looking forward to catching the ferry to the island next time we're up that way. Patrick was awesome & a pleasure to talk to!

Wonderful and friendly folks. $15 round trip no matter how long you want to stay on the island. Great service and Grand Island is one of the best ways to experience Lake Superior.
