A wonderful, old school, and classy hotel. Fantastic lodging at an excellent price. Great hotel bar and upscale restaurant Would recommend to anyone looking for a room for the night in the area.

Great rooms, quaint furnishings, comfortable beds. Cool little town. Great place to start the Back of the Dragon from.

Interesting historic hotel. Nicely refurbished. Sadly, little else of interest in the area.

I travel the eastern U.S. constantly and this by far the best hotel I've ever stayed in. I felt like I was in the 1930's. Everything about this hotel is superb, from the quality of the towels to the craftsmanship of the door casings. The staff were perfectly attuned to everything a hotel should be. I'll definitely be planning my travels through Marion from now on!

No amenities, No historic ambiance - whatsoever. $120 for a night - for what? The super small room (my closet is bigger) didn't even have a closet Snobbish clerks really have not to be snobby about Best thing about this place? Sits on main street - walking distance to local bars & eateries; not that Marion VA has many from which to choose.

    Overpriced much? Oh Ya

The General Francis has a great location and anything you could possibly need is within a short walk away. All staff were friendly and helpful. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles some may be used to with a more modern hotel, but that is also part of its charm. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, what more could you ask for.

Love this place. Price is very reasonable and the hotel is a piece of history. The only place I stay when in Marion. Room was impeccable. Quaint, but has all the amenities. Nice outside area over the street to do a little evening work and puff a cigar. Dinner at hotel restaurant, Speakeasy, was delicious and very well priced.

I don't even know how to begin to describe what a completely horrible experience I had at the General Francis Marion Hotel. I was a part of a wedding there recently, and was shocked at how poorly the event planner carried out her duties. The poor bride had to stress over so many details of the wedding on her big day, and was unable to enjoy any of it due to the absence of her so called event planner. To top off the day, the entire wedding party had to walk down the aisle in complete silence since the music was not provided as they stated it would be. No one even notified the bride until it was time to walk down the aisle. The dinner service was terrible, and the food arrived ice cold after waiting over an hour for it to be served. They attempted to play music during dinner but it kept cutting off with loud bursts of ear piercing static. They are now harassing the couple with extra fees 3 weeks after the wedding. I feel terrible that this is how they will remember their special day. It was a COMPLETE ripoff, and I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.

I attended a wedding here that failed to meet everyone's expectations. The hotel was not equipped to handle such an important day. The wedding started off with no music for the bride. The catered meal took a long time to get and it was ice cold. During the reception, when they finally got music to play it kept cutting out and making an ear piercing static sound throughout the meal. We were supposed to have a nice breakfast the next morningand this was also a fail. I know the bride and groom paid A Lot of money for this poor quality service. The hotel never apologized to the newly weds and they are continuing to harass them and charge them more money. Truth of the matter the hotel should be refunding the money and apologizing to them. Spare yourself a disaster and stay somewhere else. Definitely, don't plan on an event here!!!!! Especially a wedding!!!!!

The only reason I came to this hotel and paid generously to stay in a closet sized room was because I was attending a wedding. We were all excited because the hotel is beautiful and sounded like a great place. The front desk man and house keeper were very friendly which was the ONLY good thing about our stay there! First of all the "wedding planner" was horrible, rude and no help at all. Secondly, you could tell the hotel was not used to doing big events as everything was completely unorganized and left to the bride to figure out herself. She received no help AT ALL. Thirdly, the poor bride had to walk down the aisle with NO music, in complete silence. After the ceremony, we waited about an hour for the food. Once we got our food, FINALLY, it was ice cold! The service was as slow as can be.. With about 60 guests, there were only 2 servers. Also, there was supposed to be a great breakfast but we ended up leaving and finding our own breakfast. I would highly recommend you find a different hotel! WORST STAY EVER!!
