I used to eat here when I lived in Iowa City because I didn't know any better. I found myself back in Iowa City for business recently, and I thought, "What the hell, let's try it again." I ordered a couple rolls, and a couple drinks. I was so sick the next day that I had to cancel my meeting. Sushi in the Midwest is a terrible idea in general. That fish CANNOT be fresh unless it is flow in same day air. But that's not the case since their main customers are students who don't know any better (and probably can't afford air freight on their fish). Do yourself a favor and just eat the gas station stuff with Sriracha sauce. At least that is marked with an expiration date.

The service was mediocre at best. But the food was where I really struggled. Me and my girlfriend ordered 4 rolls that sounded delicious on the menu, but when they came out with them 45 minutes later I could only recognize one of the four, only because it was wrapped in soy paper unlike the others. The other three rolls though, looked exactly the same. Two of the three didn't taste anything like I would've thought at all, and were actually bland in general. The worst part though, was the heaping piles of imitation crab on top of the actually sushi rolls, that in my opinion were meant to mask the harsh reality lying under them. We spent 58 bucks and to be honest, I would've rather spent it on a smiley face tattoo on my ass.

Awesome sushi. I've been to many sushi joints and Formosa is pretty good. Service is ok most of the time. It's expensive and easy to spend a lot. If it isn't sushi it's not that good in my opinion. But their sushi is awesome.

Very fresh and very light. A lot to choose from. Excellent service and outstanding waitresses. Highly recommend stopping and dining if you love sushi!

I'm not a true sushi fan, but they have some good rolls for everyone, like their shrimp tempura and beef rolls. Great drinks. Food can be a bit pricey, so check it out on Tuesdays and Thursdays for roll specials.

Me my dad and my son had a fantastic evening at Formosa! We sat outside and enjoyed the evening air and our meal. The sushi was pretty good not top level but everything tasted great. The staff was friendly and had some great recommendations.
