I have experienced 4 different scouting adventures at Sea Base and am preparing for a 5th. It's one of the crown jewels of the BSA!
Okay, so it's been a long time since I was here. 1987 to be exact. So this review is a little late, but I had an awesome time here. Sailed down to Key West and back. Was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
Six crews from our troop went on the coral reef sailing adventure. We were on the New Horizon with Captain Vito.
Great (yes, great) facility, location, staff, boats, captains, weather, and experience for our scouts and adults. Food was decent. I had to laugh at the special snowflakes here who wrote reviews complaining about the food - is that what's important to you dude?
Fantastic adventure! Just got back from here and was totally impressed with how well-run the camp is. While safety is definitely first priority, FUN was a very close second. We did the Keys Adventure, which gave us all a good taste of fishing, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. Loved the mates who led us throughout the week - well-trained and great with both Scouts and adults. Would have liked a little more, better info on the packing list, but we all managed. If you're going to be staying in the dorms, bring bed sheets! And, don't forget it is Scouts and you'll be walking LOTS! (I have no idea where another reviewer got the impression that alcohol was being served to minors - it's forbidden on all Scouting properties/activities, even for adults.)
As a boy scout I had a wonderful experience sailing the keys. A wonderful experience with excellent facilities.
This is an excellent high adventure trip for Scouts and adult leaders alike. We spent one week aboard the Comfort Zone II with Captain Jason Diller doing lots of sailing, snorkeling, and fishing. Our crew consisted of 4 adult leaders and 4 youth. We had a sister ship, The Green Olive, who had 3 adults and 5 youth. Fortunately we were able to rendezvous with them a little bit during the week.
I wonder if my son may want to return here in the future to work.
Now I need to work on getting my girls into Venturing so that I can do this again!
Fantastic BSA high adventure with my troop!! Ask for Capn Nate.
Great place! would recommend
The best trip I've had. took this trip when I was 16 so 11 years ago. And each year im hearing of how its only gotten better. Wish I coud go back.
The BSA Seabase was a fun and great experience. I did the island adventure back in 2009 and loved it. A lot of wildlife to see.
The base food is alright (Dining Hall be extremely hot) but the accommodations are nice & great trip when you go sailing & snorkeling seeing huge Coral Reefs and sting rays/Barracuda/types of fish. Food is great on boat if Scouts know how to cook (we did). Great opportunity to see Key West.
