This is one of our favorite places to eat breakfast or brunch in downtown Bloomington. They offer organic and farm fresh foods in creative and very tasty menu choices. The atmosphere has a rustic farmhouse flair combined with a quaint and bustling downtown pub, if that makes any sense. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food is wonderful and they seem to change the menu according to the season.
Went to a Halloween themed buffet style thing. The theme was cool. Food was hit or miss. The meats (except the meatloaf) were delicious. Sides not so much. I went into this understanding it was $25 a person and expected to tip a waitress. An exuberent tip comes already preloaded on the bill. Our bill was around $70. Both of us ordered water and had a refill one. So considering this was a buffet, we tipped her $10 for each visit to our table without our say so. Yikes. I understand that this isn't a Denny's, but I make tips for a living. I would be fired for demanding a tip. Don't do this. Not good business practices. Your tips should reflect on your performance. For the price, I expect a lot better all around.
Made a reservation for a date night dinner. Got there about 6:30, seated right away and had a great dinner. I had salmon with capers and Jim had a bison burger. Service was terrific as usual. Great date.
Went here for the first time for breakfast on a weekday a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is cozy without feeling cramped. I had the Hoosier Mama (vegetarian biscuits and gravy) and it was delicious! My mom had their hot cereal of the day which was a maple oatmeal. She really enjoyed it and said it tasted like it was made in-house and not store bought. The biscuit basket is also tasty, along with the butters and jams that come with it.
I like this place quite a bit! The dishes are not too complicated, yet original and delicious. Atmosphere is nice, sort of shabby chic meets french cottage with an eclectic touch. One of my fav spots.
Delicious food prepared from locally sourced ingredients, good beer selection (regional and local craft beer, some import), great cocktails. Atmosphere varies, but is generally positive vibe. It can get busy on weekends, so I would make reservations -- especially if there is a major event happening in town. Parking is available in the lot behind the building, accessible via 4th street.
We've been here for dinner 4 times (+ brunch once) and while every time I want to like it, something always goes wrong--the food, the service, or both. Overall, I'd say that about half the dishes are good or better, which is to say you're equally as likely to get something overcooked or ill-conceived as you are tasty and satisfying. The service ranges from alright to bad. In one case, the floor/restaurant manager corrected and admonished our waiter in front of us (who does that?!). It feels a bit like a restaurant just opened, still figuring itself out. There's potential aplenty, in particular with such a nice space, but too much is still going wrong, especially for a restaurant open nearly a decade.
A very eclectic spot with a minimal menu! They had some good options for the everyday eater and some more unique offerings as well. The fish tacos were really good, nicely portioned and had great flavor. The tomato soup was excellent and had a unique pureed texture and was full of flavor. Highly recommend trying it out. The fresh raspberry lemonade was a little tart for my taste though.
With only a few entrees on the menu I chose the four cheese grilled cheese I should have asked what the four cheese was. It had goat cheese which I hate with a passion. I still ate it and scraped as much of it off as I could. The potato salad i have no idea what they put in it but it was no potato salad in use too. My husband had the cheeseburger and it was cooked extra well done and was dry dry dry. The only thing that tasted good was the garlic fries. Needless to say our meal wasn't worth 60.00 dollars. Ridiculous, will not be going back.
My husband and I are new to Bloomington and have wanted to try Farm for some time. Being graduation weekend, we knew it would be difficult to get a table for 7 but the host was warm, inviting, and managed to get us in. They had a pre-set menu for the weekend brunch, and it didn't disappoint. The pizza was fantastic, homemade biscuits baked to perfection, and the hummus- wow! Our server was attentive and we enjoyed the colorful atmosphere. Yes, it's pricey, but the quality of the food and experience was well worth it. Will definitely be back!
Been here a couple times before this graduation weekend. Service was good and waiters were very friendly. However this weekend was a complete departure from the experience I expected at farm. Having been unable to make reservations ahead of time 2 weeks ahead, I called the restaurant and asked about whether it would be possible to get a table without reservations on 5/5/17. A waiter told me that they would do their best to accommodate me and that I would be able to wait and get a table if a party left early. When I went to the restaurant on Friday 5/5 the woman behind the reservation desk was extremely rude, and said they wouldn't let us even wait for a table. Stating it is "impossible." That's fine. I took my family's money elsewhere and we were equally if not more satisfied by the customer service. I won't be back to farm for a while. Farm, you don't manage your reservations well. According to opentable you had canceled reservations.
I've been here a handful of times and it always comes up short. The most recent time, part of my meal and an entire appetizer never arrived to the table, even after we were assured someone would bring it out. The service was mediocre at best - waters weren't refilled, we weren't asked if we wanted drink refills, and we saw our server twice during our whole meal.
Finally, the amount and quality of food you get just doesn't justify the price you pay. A basic breakfast is $10-$12; beers here are $6-$8 when they're $5-$6 elsewhere; $7 soup is lukewarm; the burgers just "fine". For all the hype surrounding this place, I expect a great experience from drinks to dinner to dessert, and I've never had one.
This is one of those places that brings you in with the atmosphere and concept - i.e. "farm to table" fresh, creative dishes - and then repeatedly fails to deliver. If you go here, order pizza, the garlic fries, or just have drinks - nothing else is worth putting up with the poor service and steep prices. Personally, I probably won't go back.
We had very high hopes for this place due to the reviews and ratings. We were very disappointed! This place is very overrated for what it is! The atmosphere is neat, so I can see the appeal. But the food is extremely overpriced for what you get! Our waitress was rude and snobbish. We were seated immediately (because we had reservations) but the restaurant was only halfway empty so there was plenty of seats. We sat for 12 minutes before a waitress even came by to ask us for drinks. We ordered an appetizer and it came pretty quickly. It was just garlic-fries with herb seasoning on it. Upon more discovery, they are called shoestring fries and you can buy them at your local grocery store a $1 a bag!! And they did!! They charge $8.50on their menu, I'm assuming for the herbs?. then our waitress took another seven minutes to come back and place our dinner order and she seemed like we were bothersome and messing with her socializing time where all the waitresses and waiters were gathered in the back. We then sat there patiently waiting on our food, we watched seven other tables sit down and get their food in a prompt time. All before we even got ours. My husband asked about where our food was to our 'passing' waitress, (never stopped back by), she rolled her eyes and went and checked and Lord and behold our food arrived! 45 minutes after ordering it.The food itself was subpar. Average at best. I ordered the bison with Gouda Mac and green beans for $35, my husband ordered Big Red Pizza for $15 +$2 for chicken. My steak was cooked perfect, but was complete bubblegum! It was so full of fat, there was barely any meat. My husband's pizza was average at best. No strong flavors even though theres pesto on that pizza and pesto usually has a strong flavor. He paid two dollars extra for chicken to be added on the pizza. There were 4 small pieces of chicken. And his pizza was cold!! This place was way too expensive for what you got! We mentioned to the waitress that the time that it took for our food was longer than anyone else and we were only a party of two. Parties of five seated after us were getting their food before we were. And several other tables with only two got their food long before we did and we were sat before them. She rolled her eyes and acted as if she could care less. I told my husband to ask for a manager, but he didn't want to he just wanted to leave because we had been there for so long. We will never go back to this place. I understand the appeal of maybe what it once was. But I feel like they have lost The original idea and plan that this restaurant once represented. I think that them reaching fame and popularity, has destroyed and made them forget what they originally open the business for. For fresh, locally grown products to be repaired locally and sold locally. They have a lost that reputation we with me! Seems like all they care about now is money! We will not be back and I will advise everyone not waste your money on mediocre food & overpriced rudeness.
Came down for Easter dinner with my family. I liked the eclectic vibe. I went with the duck and was not disappointed. Grits were creamy and the duck was cooked for perfectly. I would suggest trying this place if you have the chance. Also try the Apple pie martini.
