Closing my account ASAP the only reason I haven’t because it’s Saturday the Drive-Up ATM customer service rep was by far the rudest women I have ever met. Did not attempt to cash my check if I had the women’s name I would report her.
TL;DR- Leaving after 14 years to go to a credit union who is better able to take care of my needs.
The Good: The tellers and member services reps are some of the friendliest, most pleasant people I've dealt with face-to-face. Kind and always try to do right by the member; they are this institution's greatest asset.
The Bad: I have been a dedicated member since 2003 until now. My wife and I set up a living trust and wanted to transfer ownership of my accounts to the trust. I was told by a supervisor that this "is no longer a service we provide" and they haven't provided trust accounts in over 5 years. Furthermore, that "we suggest that our members name the trust as the accounts' beneficiary" and that this "is essentially the same." Wrong- naming the trust as a beneficiary negates all the benefits for having a trust established in the first place! Giving a horrible suggestion that is actually a huge disservice to their members- Strike 1.
I asked why then does the Membership and Account Agreement state that trusts can own accounts? "We no longer set up trust accounts because of the extra legalities associated with them," was the response and that those types of accounts mentioned are concerning "grandfathered" accounts. Yet, the "legalities" the supervisor mentioned would still need to be dealt with if I died and the trust was the beneficiary, i.e- my accounts would need to be changed to trust accounts anyways! Nowhere in the Account Agreement does it state that trust accounts are explicitly not set up. Even the provisions in the Special Account Instructions have the implication that such an account can be established. If these services "are no longer provided", then the Account Agreement should reflect this.
When I asked why the Account Agreement appears to contradict what they were saying, the response was then that the information on the website is old and needs to be updated. I then showed that the web page that hosting the agreement was last updated on April 19, 2017, and not 5 years ago, they were at a loss. If the supervisor was right, then I'm upset that the agreement contradicts the current policy. If the supervisor was wrong, then they were not properly informed as they should be as experts on the credit union's policy. Contradiction between the Account Agreement's publicly communicated policy and management's understanding of the policy - Strike 2.
The final straw was that the day prior to our vacation, I called Extra CU to make note on my account of the dates I'd be overseas, and where, so that I could have access to my funds without setting off any alerts. Our first dinner on vacation and my card is being declined! To add insult to injury, I then needed to add an International Plan to my cell service just so I could call Extra CU to find out why my card was being declined. Apparently, there were no notes on my account at all about my trip- Strike 3!
These 3 items (horrible "suggestion" that is a disservice, contradictory information that does not meet my needs, and being locked out of my accounts when I needed them while overseas) ruined any loyalty that 14 years had built. I have since joined another credit union, who've had no issue opening an account in the name of our trust (and shook their heads when I told them about my experience), and the checking, savings, and money market accounts with Extra CU will be fully closed by the end of this month.
This bank has the right mentality to help those in bad financial standing but has poor execution. They don't communicate or followup on loan decisions to know if you are approved. They also do not value confidentiality and listen well to collect and give information to the underwriters. They disclosed my fiance information to me when I mentioned that my fiance got approved for a certain amount of money where we make close to the same amount to be approve for the same amount and has the same credit score as me. They also looked into my account with them to see what I spent which no bank does and nowhere states that they will do that on the policies and procedures. In the credit process for a flexline, they incorrectly collected and sent my income to the underwriters without verifying all the income I have and writing done the wrong amount that was previously discussed when I opened a checking account. I was denied by Loan Officer Jamie after never being contacted and lied to with previous loan officer Amanda Work. Amanda Work sent an email to my fiance without my consent stating to call her, which she never sent as my fiance looked in his emails and spam folder and was not there. Her email would not be blocked or be in spam as my fiance setup his account which she emailed to him as he went through a similar bad experience. This bank does not care about their remote bankers and cater only to their onsite bankers. Stay away from this bank at all cost. Come if you are okay with your personal information being given to others, lack of communication, them in your account going by what you spent instead of your credit history, and not listening to you as they gather and send your information wrong to the underwriters for a decision, and lies with excuses when they never contact you about your application for any financial services with them, Their are better alternatives elsewhere despite have a poor credit score and lending power. -10 stars for this bank.
After having an issue with the bank and speaking to Amanda who was very sincere in her apology ,who got me approved for $300 more for a FlexLine of Credit, after explaining how busy the branch was and responding promptly where approval took place the same day. I am very satisfied as this shows that Extra Credit Union does care about all their members whether they are physically at the branch or remote members. They have proven to me that they want to help those with bad credit such as myself so that they can get better rates, and approved for lots of things when they don't have the money at the moment they need it. Thank you Amanda Work and all of Extra Credit Union for resolving my concerns and showing me again the vibrant and good banking experienced I received when I first signed up at the branch!
Let me tell YOU, when the others say No.."Extra Credit Union has millions to lend and nothing will stop them from lending to you"!!!!!!! Awsome service and Lenders I cant forget about Charlotte at the front desk; she greets you and takes out time to make you feel special.Thank you Extra Credit Union for making my life so much better!!! The best credit union in Michigan I bet you!!!!!
Horrible experience with Jennifer in Auto loan department. Wanted 20% down on a $7000 loan. Provided $1400 weekly income verification with a 620 credit score and it was a process that was taking almost 4 weeks.
After dealing with her impersonal unethical behavior we decided to cancel the loan application right before being approved because we had such a miserable experience through the application process we wanted nothing to do with that type of customer service if that was what to come over the life of the loan.
Could never get a call back or an email returned.
STAY AWAY FOR AUTO LOANS. They have a bunch of fake 5 star ratings too boost overall numbers. This place is terrible.
I love Extra Credit Union. They are the best and treat you like Family. I would NEVER go to another Credit Union or bank. Summer Lewis is my favorite but everyone who work at the Branch have positive attitudes, even the call center. Thanks Extra Credit Union for giving Customers a 2nd chance My Credit Score is way better and continue to go up. I must say Lisa does a awesome job as well.
From the first day I became a member, they have treated me with respect and kindness. They have always been honest and trustworthy and helped me in paying off debt. I will continue being a loyal member for years to come. Professional staff highly recommend
We have been members of Extra Credit Union for over twenty five years, and have witnessed her growth through her transition periods, from Warren Schools credit union to Metro Credit Union and currently Extra Credit Union. Our experience with a credit union is much more personable than a bank! We are proud to be not only a member, but treated like a family member. We love the customer service and individual attention each branch provides, but our quaint, intimate Sterling Heights office is superb!
Customer service is great but trying to get a pre approval for a mortgage here is a joke. "Dan the mortgage man" is the only thing "stopping them from lending to you". After submitting an online form for pre approval, which tells you that you should be contacted within 24 hours, 3 weeks later and haven't heard anything. Of course, this is even after calling multiple times, having a phone meeting scheduled with Dan and him not calling us back, and even leaving him multiple voicemails letting him know that this is an awful way to treat credit union members, and that if we don't hear back from him we would seriously need to think about banking elsewhere. Still nothing. Extra Credit Union needs to seriously think about improving their mortgage department, especially now when you can walk into a bank or submit an online form and get pre approved the same day, not still waiting 3 weeks later for someone to call you back.
They gave me a debt consolidation loan when no one else would. They worked with my bruised credit (I've got to start somewhere to rebuild it). They didn't give quite what I was asking for but, what I was given was reasonable. My only qualm is that the staff seems a bit overwhelmed regarding communications. Be prepared to call/email multiple times if you need to contact them. If you're calling be prepared to be on hold for a while. Besides this (it's not the staff's fault there isn't enough of them for the volume of customers), I have no qualms. I recommend Extra Credit Union!
I had a great experience at the credit union. I was looking to consolidate all my debt into one payment. All the other credit unions and Banks denied my request just making excuses to not help me. I applied at extra credit after hearing an ad on the radio. I was working with Amanda who is amazing and was able to eliminate all my debt and lower my payment into one. She is courteous and very rapid with responses. Will deal with them again.
