After 15 years remembering a nice experience at Exeter Elms, my family has decided to give this place another try now that I have grandchirlden. The entrance was bright but the first thing we noticed were the disgusting trash bins on the way in, how easy would it be to section them off with a gate to hide the garbage. First impressions are everything! The office was beautifully remodeled and the staff worker was pleasant. On our drive in, the access road clearly needed some gravel, the pot holes were very large and we ended up with a flat tire. Being environmentalist we noticed a vast amount of uncontrolled poison ivy everywhere, last I checked it is a campgrounds responsibility to spray for that. We paid for our grandchildren to use a pillow pad and we anticipated taking them canoeing, swimming in the pool, and visiting the beaches. There was a beautiful white fence surrounding the pool and new beach chairs for anyone to use, the pool deck looked great until we saw the actual pool water. This pool should be condemned to the public as there was hair/bandaids/bugs floating in it and the water was green and cloudy. We did not let our grandchildren swim in it. We decided to take them to the pillow pad, which was not open. The river for canoeing was also unavailable because the river was so low. That should not be advertised as an amenity. The campground showed no signs of life during the week, there was nothing for the children to do, thank god for the beaches in the area. The playground needs serious updating, and the so called "arcade" is in the dark and hot attic above the store. The bathrooms were dirty, there was no soap in the dispensers and there was only 1 stall with toilet paper, which we found odd because there was a sign in sheet for staff that were supposed to be "checking the bathroom". On the door of the shower it said that 2 quarters would be plenty to take a shower so we brought 2 figuring we would have enough, The 2 quarters got us one and a half minutes of ice cold water and one and a half minutes of warm water, that was after running the water in the sink to "pump the warm water into the building". I don't know what kind of person showers in three minutesThe laundry room looked decent, we didn't use it so I can't comment on that. On the weekend, there were many activities listed on the sheet that my grandchildren were very excited for, sadly very few occurred. The few that did happen were being run by a lady who claimed she was not the activities director she was just filling in. The appearances of the workers is very unprofessional with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths with stains and holes all over their clothes. I don't like to be judgmental about the appearance of people especially when we are camping however, professionalism is clearly lost at Exeter Elms. The only pleasant experience my grandchildren had here was the dj on Saturday night because they both love to dance. The location of the park was wonderful, but the park itself is rundown, poorly managed, and extremely understaffed. Many children in the pool were unsupervised and rules do not apply to everybody as far as speed limits, bike helmets, quiet hours, and road directions on one way streets.
I should have listened to the reviews online before I booked. Hopefully these reviews are read and taken seriously because this once beautiful campground is being run into the ground.response / report this review -

So disgusting, myself and my family went, the bathrooms were horrible. We planned and payed for 4 night. We left early, people were up untill 130 drinking and smoking ×××. The men's shower near us didn't have not water. When we went to the other restroom area the women's room had no hot water. The activities the charge for. The arcade doesn't work. The river is not a river it's a nasty moat. I had to watch my puppy the whole time, because there was a huge mother snapping turtle. Needless to say the owner refused to give me my money back. Don't come here with your children.

Michelle is a wonderful person, compassionate, caring, and sincere. She rented me the perfect spot for the night. It was awesome. I highly recommend Exeter Elm Campground when you need a quiet retreat to get away from it all. There is also plenty to do if you want to socialize. Thanks, Michelle, and God bless you for your kindness.

They give jobs to locals and healthy camping to tourist. But the real selling point is that they care.

Try to go every year around the fourth. It's a great get away for the weekend. Every year we go we have had awesome camping neighbors. If you come prepared to deal with mosquitoes with candles and spray you will have a great time. Just remember if you do plan to camp always I mean always bring bug repellent. But I highly recommend this place for all. They have events throughout the day and have canoes, a pool, horse shoes, volleyball and several other things. Some sights have electricity and water. There are tent spots, rv spots, and cabins.

I don't even want to give it a star but it required one. I can't even say if this place was nice or not- booked a cabin last year, as I always do..Call the day before arrival to verify reservation, even though I have email conversations that we are all set- just to be told they double booked the cabin, the other family arrived so me and my family are basically SOL. The other family paid in full over the phone so management gave the cabin to them. Regardless of the deposit I paid a year ago for this cabin. Of course it is Labor Day weekend and there is nothing else. Good thing I didn't drive all the way there to find this out. And the campground basically said there is nothing we can do. What a joke this place is. I will be sure this customer service goes national!

I went this past 8-4-16 weekend for 2 nigth the only disappointed is the alot Flys ,and the river empty we went first time about 15 years ago in that time was better for kids and adults ,now only good is the pool
