Great place for people of all ages. Oldest hippo alive resides here and was given this permanent residence by the Governor of Florida. Many animals are at the park including; manatees, alligators, eagles, underwater viewing of the many lake fish, etc.. There is something there for everyone who enjoys nature. There is a boat ride or tram to take you to the park entrance. Also there is a souvenir shop and many displays.
Every year we visit family at Christmas, and every year we make sure to get in a visit to Homasassa Springs when we do. We especially love spotting manatees!!
This park is a great way to spend a day. There's a great variety of animals here and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They do great work rehabilitating animals as well.
Make sure to take the boat ride from one side to the other!
Great experience! We came in around 11 am and although the parking lot was packed it did not feel crowded at all. Definitely a good idea to check the showtimes so you can learn more about the animals. I don’t think I’ve ever been that close to a hippopotamus before. Interesting for little kids and adults.
WOW is what comes to mind when I wanted to review this place. My father lives in Beverly Hills and is a member of the Florida parks. He asked me if my family would like to spend a day here while we were visiting for Christmas. It exceeded my expectations. From the pontoon boat ride to the park to viewing the different animals was very relaxing and rewarding. Do yourself a favor and spend a day with your family here.
Better than expected. They have a great selection of wildlife and the exhibits were very nice. They also have daily feedings of manatee and Lu, their hippo. The park is clean and the animals are healthy. We ended up spending over two hours walking around and there was still more to see. I'd recommend this to anyone who appreciates nature.
It was decent, but several exhibits were missing and no explanation as to why. I had to rely on other guests letting me know how many animals were normally there. I can understand the need for repairs and maintenance, but at least post something to inform us
I had never had any interest in visiting here, but I was wrong. This place is wonderful. It's no less than a tropical zoo and well worth the trip. It's restoration and rehabilitation programs justify it and it is easily accessible. Highly recommended.
How can you not appreciate a Great State Park. Boat ride in to park with your guide was nice and volunteer staff in park are so friendly and knowledgeable! Awesome all the animals they have with a beautiful walking tour at your own pace. Highly recommend visiting and making a donation to keep it going!
If you are on a road trip timetable be aware that this marker on google is not the park. This is a visitor building with a gift shop.
Do not show up for the 1:30 manatee showing at 1:15 expecting it to work. They will just tell you "Oh, it takes 20 minutes to get to the park from here. You've already missed it."
Edit: To make things worse, the lady working in the gift shop was exceptionally rude to not only our family but another as well for completely different reasons. The rangers were very happy to help though.
Once we got to the actual park we were impressed. Very nice, natural habitat for the non-releasable manatees. Interesting venomous snake exhibit, amazing hippo.
Our day began with a relaxing boat ride up The Pepper Creek from the visitor center to the park.
The park is well laid out, clean, interesting, reasonably priced and houses many animals that are well taken care of (the most important!)
We especially enjoyed the unique manatees. There are 3 female manatees in residenceAriel, Electra and Lorelei who is presently in the 'manatee hospital'we sure hope she's better.
We loved Lou the 57 year old honorary Florida resident hippo. Tip: stay clear of Lou's 'splatter zone' LOL
Our day ended with a pleasant tram ride back to the parking lot.
I love coming here and I can't wait to take my two little ones. Not only can you see a bunch of animals you can even feed some of them. Plus for they holidays they put on some amazing events
I absolutely love this park and believe it is a must visit for both residents and visitors alike. I try and go every few years just to see the natural beauty. If you do go I recommend taking the boat tour in just so you can enjoy the natural beauty of the Florida swamp land.
It is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL I've learned a lot about the animals and plants in Florida. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The park is very clean and well kept. I love the events held like the Christmas season and manatee season. It's a great place to visit over and over. Thank u
If you like manatees this place is for you! Also they have friendly staff that are eager to help. The other animals on the property are very cool as well. When we were there recently they had a wolf. A wolf! How cool is that?! Oh and two bald eagles.that's just not something you see every day.
The boat ride over to the main entrance is a must. My kids loved it! The park is very well maintained and clean. Very peaceful and the rangers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We love everything about this place. I wish they could have more animals, because this place would make an awesome zoo but we understand they only house animals indigenous of Florida with the exception of a wonderfully delightful hippo named "Lu". We did have the pleasure of seeing several manatees in their natural habitat. The time of the year is the key. We were told November if you want to see babies. We were there at the start of April and were able to see many cows but some of the animals were separated and hard to see due to it being mating season. Plenty of shade throughout the park, we will def. be regular visitors.
