No frills "train station Mexican Food." Service is good, food is good too (but not amazing). Portions are quite large. No wifi or electric outlets (in case your train got cancelled and need to wait for a while), FYI.
One star because I can't give 0.
Owner is a complete jerk. Ordered a chorizo/egg burrito and was sitting outside, waiting for the bike shop to open. Finished the burrito, cleaned up, continued to wait. Place was completely empty. A car rolls up, the driver gets out and gets belligerent almost immediately about the seat only being for customers. Doesn't identify himself as the owner until I ask him.
I said I wouldn't be back and he said good.
Burrito was fine, service was good; I pity the people who work for that guy.
Good food & reasonable prices. If you like Mexican food, you'll love this place! Plus, it's a great place to kill a little time if you're waiting for The Coaster© at the Sorrento Valley stop it's literally right across the street
Good food. Decent price for a large portion. There are plenty of shrimps on Surf & Turf burrito. Nice service and very close to Sorrento Valley train station.
I came here because I was desperately hungry on my way home before I caught the coaster. Lady was nice but the creepy cook in the back kept boldly staring at me while I was taking my order and paying. I ordered the chicken tacos because I thought "hey who could mess up chicken tacos.." Well yea Elena's can. I got two big ass tacos just loaded up with flavorless grilled chicken, chunks of iceburg lettuce, and a bunch of lame shredded Mexican cheese. I was so hungry but I looked at it and didn't even bother to try and eat it. That's how sad it looked. So I just ate the corn tortillas with some cheese inside. Learned my lesson.
Well it's a taco shop with a Chinese owner and they charge extra for everything and the chips they come in a bag that's so ghetto
Hit or miss- sometimes my stomach gets a bit unsettled after. I like the shrimp burritos here, tasty and it's huge.
Good lunch choice for the people works nearby, and the Mexican food is normally faster than the traditional American food. Normally I will choose a California Burrito for lunch, and the beef is more than enough.
This spot is a little gem for quick, delicious burritos. Admittedly, I've only tried the chicken chipotle and the philly cheese steak burrito, so I am biased, albeit I've tried the former at least 10 times. The location is standard - clean, homey (for Mexicans), owner run, which is great. They decorate for holidays and have hand written changing specials often. It's the type of place you come to appreciate for their service, friendliness, and most importantly, the uber large Chicken Chipotle Burrito.
On to the coup de gras. Tip: Ask for extra chipotle sauce. The sauce makes it. Not sure what they use in it, but it is absolutely creamy and delicious. It permeates through the burrito like water on a sponge, through the rice, beans and chicken. The rice is delicious, beans refried on point, and chicken is slightly crisped on the griddle. Comes with veggies too, if you're interested in that sort of thing. Its a wonderful creation. And the philly cheese steak burrito is wonderful too. By that logic, I'd say the rest of the items are good too, and I'll update the review when I get to them!
Overall, Elena's is a spot that endears to you, if you want simple, great food with nice people. We eat there for lunch (close to work) and sometimes get some burritos for the traffic filled ride home!
