I love the Mexican Food in San Diego and if you enjoy Mole sauces, this is the place to go. Heaven on Earth for sampling different varieties of Tequila. Excellent restaurant!

I have been here twice now, and while the restaurant is lovely and the selection is authentic, my partner was sick all night after eating here. She had the Salmon Medallion and was up ALL night with food sickness. Very disappointing after spending $120+ for the two of us; one would expect the quality of the food to match the dollar spent. We will not be coming back here again and would not recommend any of the seafood if you don't want to hugging porcelain all night.

The food was outstanding, both 'standard' fare and the more interesting offerings. There were many many varieties of tequila I had never heard of and the flights were both interesting and reasonably priced. Service was excellent, atmosphere interesting and while active not too noisy. Best Restaurant I visited in San Diego.

I have been a long-time fan of El Agave and was therefore disappointed in our recent visit. Not sure if ownership or management has changed, but the food was not what I'd long experienced as excellent. Perhaps there has been a change in the cooking staff?

Wonderful personable service. I was a tequila novice, and our waiter explained the different ages of each tequila and how to drink them properly. Our shrimp tacos and chicken mole we're fantastic.

Had such a nice time a couple of days ago went back. Might just make it our official watering hole. Alex and Carlos were great bartenders, atmosphere great, and collection of fine tequilas top rate.

Incredible selection of tequila. Friendly knowledge staff. Great margaritas. Wish I lived closer.
What a difference a few days makes. Just went back and had a completely different experience. That same drink was made completely differently. I was left to sit outside because other patrons put their dogs on the stools. Had to wander the restaurant looking for a server.
That wonderfully crafted margarita from Monday was replaced by a sour focused mess on Wednesday.

Fantastic octopus ceviche (honestly best 🐙 ever tasted) and great mezcal and tequila flights. A bit high end pricing but worth it. We requested outdoor seating where there was a nice breeze and quiet surrounding. Service was decent and friendly but unfortunately took over 20 minutes to get our check at the end.

Huge selection of Tequila. Poor service and uneducated waiter. Food was boring. Chips were bland, salsa was tasty however. We double dated and sadly they forgot my entree then brought it out after all of our meals and were drinks were consumed. I got it for free but still didn't rectify the purpose we went, to have dinner together. Don't waste your time. Too expensive.

The best tacos I have ever eaten! Yes, it was pricy but the flavor and presentation was out of this world. Enough food to satisfy without over indulging.

Great gourmet Mexican food. Monet and other entrees. I had delightful leg of lamb which wasn't very Mexican but was delicious. Great tequila sampler also though it was fairly pricey. Only drawback was the Romaine salad as part of our four-course dinner which was short on dressing and had slightly sour tasting lettuce. But really, why would anyone expect or order Romaine salad in a Mexican restaurant anyway?

Excellent mole! Fantastic Cadillac Margarita! Wait staff is knowledgeable of the full menu and very attentive. The food takes time to arrive at table because it is made fresh and comes out hot and tasty. Drink a margarita while you wait. You can tell this food is made with great care.
