Delicious, home cooked food. Favorites are Manhattan, Vegetable Beef soup, mashed potatoes with beef gravy, stuffing and noodles. Rolls are amazing as well as any pie they make! I always have Der Dutchman when I am home from Cali.
I had an enjoyable lunch here with the family. We ordered the meal family style (~$14/person). The first waitress was wonderful, extremely friendly and attentive. She offered us water and very pleasant about inquiring about our drinks. We ordered soft drinks, waters and a white chocolate caramel cappuccino. The cappuccino came out a little less hot than I prefer but was thick and creamy. Whipped cream on top was a nice touch.
Upon returning with our drinks she took our order, asking a series of questions to ensure she had the right orders. Upon putting in our order we went to the salad bar. Selection was decent, with iceberg or spring mix as a base. Topping options include your typical salad bar fare, but also include items like pickled eggs, fresh bacon, and mustard eggs. Other items include potato salad, cole slaw, jello, and potato salad.
Dinner was very enjoyable; the broasted chicken is excellent as are the mashed potatoes and stuffing. Corn had a green bean and noodle in it, so a bit disappointing, as was the raspberry pie. We had a different waitress at the end of the meal, but she was a bit pushier about trying to get us out of there (we were still eating)
I love the Der Dutchman at Walnut Creek. Firstly, I'll remind you that this was built to serve tourists coming to Ohio Amish Country. They in my opinion do a wonderful job of doing just that. The food is top notch and the view from the dining room is spectacular! Recommend for those wanting to find homestyle cuisine!
It was a very nice Amish dinner meal. The people in my party who had the baked chicken meals loved it. I had the hamburger and it was cooked rock hard. I should have sent it back. Our server was very nice. We arrived at 6:15pm on a Friday and it was about a 25 minute wait. To avoid a wait, arrive closer to 7pm. We enjoyed the option of a half slice of pizza for dessert.
Everything on the buffet was fresh and delicious. Also the view by the window was great. The only drawback was the long line to get into the restaurant, but well worth the wait. We thought at some point the line would go down but it didn't.
My mom and I ate there this past Saturday. She got the buffet and I ordered a salad. The buffet looked great and my mom enjoyed it. The waitress was very good and very polite. Half way through my salad I realized there was a round brown ball of some sort in my salad. It was not a raisin. It felt like a rabbit turd or a ball of mud, about a 1/2 inch oval shape. So much for my meal. They refunded my salad, last time for me at Der Dutchman.
Decent food. Tried the Broasted Chicken breast dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans. Chicken was moist and nicely friend, lacked a little seasoning. Potatoes tasted like they were out of a pouch, and green beans tasted like they were canned. Again decent food, but nothing that was exceptional.
I lived down the road from this place for many years, 14 to be exact. The food is actually quite good. I don't know how much is made from scratch anymore but the broasted chicken as well as the fried are always highlights. I am a big fan of the pot pie and usually get it along with the salad bar. Make sure to ask if they have any pot pies available because they sometimes run out. They do serve family style as well so it's a great place for young and old as well as large and small parties.
Delicious food clean, beautiful view over looking the country side, and excellent service!
Absolutely awesome food atmosphere and service.
Preview of culinary life in your future nursing home (or prison). Granted, you can get up and get it youself, whereras in a "home" you get it on a tray when you are bound to a wheelchair. White hair and morbidly obese landscapeAs you enjoy canned beans and bulk fried chicken from the buffet.
I had the breakfast buffet. The food is definitely of a good quality. I really enjoyed the sausage and fried corn mush. Each table also has different types of spread. I really liked the apple spread. It might be a little over priced but it is a touristy spot so it's to be expected. Friendly service, good spot to just sit around - definitely check Der Dutchman out.
We love this restaurant. All of the food is made by the Amish so you aren't eating anything out of a can. The homemade pie selection is incredible. It even has a backers on the back side of the restaurant do you can take home fresh bread, cookies and pies.
