You could spend all day there and not see everything! Wonderful museum, though $12 parking felt a bit high. Can’t complain with free admission though. There are a few exhibits you have to pay to see, but they really do mean free admission— there are great works from around the world throughout many time periods. I don’t consider myself art savvy but I still enjoyed it a lot.
You can't beat FREE. Great exhibits. Staff always friendly. Never had enough time to see everything in one day. Only gripe I have is that they close pretty early. Wish they stayed open couple hours later.
I visited over 10 years ago and wow! The renovations are wonderful! I had a very nice time wandering around for almost 3 hours by myself. The way everything is separated is very nice. The food trucks across the street are a must try as well. The only price to pay is parking and it's well worth it for only 12 dollars. I'll be back again someday!
Beautiful!!!! Lots of info. If you wanted to go with your family that's a great place to go! But if you are with a group with a guide they kinda rush through the tour. I'm the kind of person to look at thinks for at least a minute and ask questions about it but they didnt even address each work of art.
I love coming here. Its free admission with the exception of certain events. There's always something to see and do no matter how many times I come here. The are areas for children and adults alike. Food court is has good variety. This is located right next to Klyde Warren park, which makes for a good transition before or after your visit to the museum.
Great art, but good luck seeing any details. The overzealous proctors are anxious to tell you to step back more than 2 feet from any piece you might want to examine. As well, any explanation of why you were trying to examine, say brushstrokes or relief, will be met by fake indignation and you being treated like a plebe. Find a museum somewhere else, this one is patrolled by mean old security guard flunkies.
I attended a Second Thursdays with a twist, Mischief Managed, and I had a great time. The function was well organized with activities for parents and kids. Great place to enjoy some piano music and socialize with friends.
Loved the art! Hate the experience every time I have gone the past 3 times the art museum exhibit security always told me something rude! I had a bottle water this time with me an they just came up to me said no water throw away or drink it now. And another time they told me that I wa hold my purse in hazardous way on my shoulder! The problem wasn't them telling me! It was the way they said as if a I am there 5 year old child! They need to learn to talk to people! I am never going there again! They ruined the whole experience!where I just want to leave because they don't even let you enjoy your time because they are always on your back!!
This museum is free to go into. Opened at eleven. Very nice air conditioning place to enjoy alone time. Loved the exhibits. Had a children's area. The under four area had a giant foam "nest", books, blocks, and other sensory items. There were a few items that I would consider a choking hazard for the youngest ones. A pleasant way to spend some time out of the heat.
This is a gorgeous art museum! It is very clean and organized. They have 4 floors with very different styles of art. The art is explained and displayed extremely well. The gift shop has items .25 and up. The Cafe has very good food,I bought a cup of chicken and vegetable soup and it was one of the best soups I have ever tasted. Overall this is one of the best Art museums I have been too and I will definitely be coming again.
A great number of exhibits to view. It's very clean and beautiful. Close to the park and food trucks! Went down there on a sunny Sunday and had a great time. I highly recommend.
Pretty cool that it's free although you pay $12 for parking. My only complaint is a large part of the museum is focused around ancient art from Asia, Egypt, the middle east. Although that's interesting, most of it you'll see at any natural history museum you go to. I wish they'd focus more on modern art.
loved the art. very clean appearance inside and out. decent categorization of pieces. especially in the exhibit. staff are extremely rude and standoffish in basically all situations. location is good, food trucks nearby are good, parking isn't horrible because there are elevators everywhere. the staff are just overbearing and awful, and that just ruined it for me. also, could probably use a little more seating.
My experience at the museum was okay. I was able to visit the Mexico exhibit which cost $16 per person. General admission is free. Parking is a whopping $12. It's not easy to park out of the museum at a parking meter, but if you can, great!
Some of the museum staff overlooking the exhibits were not friendly at all, it made me not want to see the art nearby. They looked like they did not want to be there and just looked bothered. I only encountered a couple staff members that were very nice! They put a smile on my face.
I went on Sunday, it was very very busy the entire time I was there 2pm-4pm.
In my humble opinion, it's best not to take little children just because they may get tired/bored, they may cry. They may touch the security wires surrounding art and if they do, the staff will be very very angry! I have three little ones and I'm honestly glad I didn't take them this time, but maybe in a few years.
First off, it's free. Second, it's half art, half a museum of History, if you will. Inside you will find all manner of artifacts, from cultures across the globe. I wasn't expecting that at all! Third, the staff is prepared, knowledgeable, and available. Now for the must-knows: on-site parking is $12. There's a lot of walking, and stairs (elevators too) involved, so be ready. Finally, there's a large amount of phallic art, so if you're going with kids, be ready for the questions. Enjoy!!
