Awesome place, relaxed atmosphere in parlor, excellent baked goods, wine, and coffee available in the evening. Great breakfast each morning. Rooms were nice and the proprietor Mardja was an excellent host! She went out of her way to help!

I enjoyed the ferry ride, and appreciated the indoor A/C, after biking all day, on the way back. Got a touch of heat stroke, so word to the wise, bring and drink PLENTY of water, as the humidity will get you. It wasn't a hot day, just very humid, as it had rained. First time I've ever had heat stroke, and I'm a deep South native, and lived without A/C plenty, too. We had a really nice tour of the Plum Orchard mansion, too. Very informative tour guide! The wild horses were all about along the path as we rode bikes! Beautiful!

Arrive at the Visitor Center early to beat long lines. Nice exhibits and gift shop in addition to the Cumberland Queen Ferry check-in and National Seashore information desk. The Visitor Center is upstairs, and orientation is in the breezeway under the Visitor Center. Free visitor parking is one block west of the Visitor Center behind the National Seashore Park Headquarters.
Don't forget you will need both a Cumberland Island ferry ticket and a National Park Pass to visit Cumberland Island.
If you are on the 11:45 ferry to the island, the National Seashore Museum a few blocks north of the Visitor Center opens at 10am and is a good introduction to the island. I would plan on being there early to see the exhibits and make sure I will be on time for ferry check-in around 11:00.

Cumberland island is a one of a kind place. I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves nature and animals. The horses are wild and it is such a beautiful sight to see. The island is very large so I would definitely suggest bringing a small bag with you with just the necessities because you will get tired of carrying it and also wear comfortable shoes. There are no trash cans on the island so I would highly recommend bringing a plastic bag to put your trash inside. The island is so amazing you will definitely enjoy. Just remember to check the weather because you are stranded on the island until the ferry comes back to pick you up.

I can't rave enough about how amazing of an experience this was. We did the Land & Legacy tour and our guide Mike was just phenomenal! What an incredible day- one I won't soon forget & a memory I'll always cherish. I look forward to the chance to go back someday.

Cumberland island is a jewel in the south. If you are into wilderness this is a must go place. Book the tour in advance as it gets sold out very quickly because of limited space. This was our first visit to get a lay of the land and learn the island rich history. We are definitely going back and camping there.
